Got a small problem with my '98 1.2 Sporting, every now and then there's a knocking sound, like somethings catching underneath. It seems completely random and will do it every now and then irrelevent of where the wheels are pointing. I was going to get underneath and have a look tomorrow, but does anyone have a clue where to start?

hand brake cable
exhaust

What do you mean by handbrake cable, sorry to sound thick, does it catch or something?

I have just been informed, that it does it more going around corners than at any other time... sorry bout that! Been fed some duff info! Does it going both left and right - could it still be either of those faults?

hand brake cable knocks on bottom of car, but now you say corners its worse, could be suspension bushes or wheel bearings, even a loose wheel, is it coming from front or back

Sounds like something is catching or similar, the knocking isn't consistant, i.e not a regular ticking or anything, sounds almost as if something is catching an the bumper or something?

could be inner wheel arch come loose.
has it got standard wheels or wider ones?

it could be next doors cat stuck under it

Couldn't find anything obvious, All the bushes and gaitors seem Ok. Booked into local garage tomorrow.

Knocking from the front could be a few things have a look at your suspension mounts (Struts) also have a look at your CV Boots and check for signs of excessive grease and wear.. Does the knocks happen more over bumps if so could be the the anti roll bar drop link...

Went into the garage today, she had a knackered CV joint.
All sorted now.
