I HAVE TAKEN MY CAR INTO THE GARAGE SEVERAL TIMES TO GET THE AIRBAG LIGHT FIXED. IT'S COME ON YET AGAIN. IS IT SOMETHING I COULD FIX MYSELF. I'M FED UP WITH FORKING MONEY OUT ON THIS PROBLEM.

CHEERS.

I know how you feel but it will cost maybe £30-45 but at what cost the possibility of someones life take it to a dealer and get it checked out properly ask and make sure only a DET works on the airbag system there only ones authourised to do it might have a faulty pasenger switch that would put the light on untill its reset..

its a very common problem, and they usually cant fix it. my girlfriend's mk2 sporting went to the dealer twice, and both times they changed a wire, and both times the light came back on. they admit they cant fix it and dont know what the problem is. i've since learnt that experience was the same as most people's, and now you've had the same. pull the light out on the dash and you'll feel so much better.

I have spoken to 3 dealers in the "Birmingham area" regarding this modification and they have not got a clue what I am on about; is there a ref-number I can quote and better, is there a decent FIAT dealer in this area?

this came up in my punto

took it into the dealers and they repaired it (under waranty) only for it to come back on the next day grrr

so another trip down to the garage and they had another look at it and they said that the airbag switch had to be modified and now the light does not come back on

The modification is a extra section of wiring loom.........tell them to read their services news!!! If not tell them to P.M. me here,i'm not at liberty to give out service news details sorry.

mine too is on since i got it. i have stuck black tape over the plastic screen covering it, so its not distracting me when i am driving, blinking away.

theres a lot of talk as to whether airbag/passenger airbag lights being on is an MOT failure.
I read a detailed account though, on the vauxhall owners network from/quoting MOT testers, current VOSA guidelines, which it was argued clearly state -

if the light is on, it is an mot failure, but if the light is not lighting up - it is just an advisory.

Light needs to function if airbag is fitted or fail also. So covering it won't get you through an MOT.

My car had 11 months MOT when i got it, yet had -

mixed tyres on both axles
passenger airbag warning light on
a leaking sump bodged up with car body filler
a brake pad down to the metal
a handbrake holding only right near the top notch

The MOT cert did also not show any details on emissions readings, but says something about the test being bypassed. So maybe that was ignored too.

It did have some welding done, a new exhaust and an oil & filter change for the test, but talk about an MOT for a friend....which the seller did say the tester is a friend and lives across the road.........

or maybe all those issues arose the month after the test

all these new rules on warning lights as MOT failures are basically to get cars off the road and into the scrapyard, keeping us all buying new cars - good for the industry. (n)

someone told me about a colleague who scrapped a 51 reg megane as the airbag warning light was on and they had it looked at, but no mechanic could solve the problem....the car worked well apart from that

Yes and no, certain things I agree with, such as airbag lights, but other things are a tad pointless. (n)

passenger airbag light is to say its switched off, switch it on and light should go out, a fault with passenger airbag should light up the man n ball light

Yes it is switched on with the key on the passenger side dashboard end. I did check by switching the key on and off again, but the light stays on. Its the orange light with the person in a seat with something behind his head, at the bottom of the speedo, thats on and it blinks on and off quickly all the time the ignition is on

Sorry yes -

Passenger side air bag deactivated

this is the light on. It shows a baby chair on the front passenger seat with its back to the deactivated (X'd out) airbag.

Only thing is - it is not deactivated in my car as the key switch is turned to the ON position :confused:

I wonder if it'll pass if you leave the switch in the off possition then :chin:
