General Looking for first car..would like a punto

Hey everyone...totally new to this world of 'cars'.. im hoping to get a punto soonish but wasnt sure what to look out for.. im stuck between a 1.1 55sx or a 1.2 75sx... i shud be able to insure both, but being the way i am i am being a bit specific and want it to be black with colour coded bumpers and as many mods as i can afford.. any help from you guys would be much appreciated..

1st thing to do is phone for insurance quotes and check if you can insure them,then decide on the model as there's been a couple of posts lately about people with cars they got silly quotes on

yeah i already have... currently it'll cost me £1300 to insure the 1.1sx and about £1600 to insure the 1.2sx.. my total money being around about £3k so i have to leave enuff for car..i can get punto alloys off of a m8 that he never used on his HGT for £200 with brand spanking new tyres... so i wuld be happy with a plain black punto..

well my supervisor drives a black Punto HGT... so my personal prefference would be a punto.. even if mine will be seriously different..

if you can afford it get the 75sx. it'll be worth it over the 1.1.

I've got a black 1.1 55sx and i love it, the person who had it before me didnt look after it very well, but its got a good home now!!!

My insurance is £700, with an excess of £400 coz im still young

Definitely a good car to have though!!!!

yea well i was only 17 in december... plus, being a guy, my insurance is a wee bit more expensive than urs... n e way cheers for the info

If you can afford the insurance difference you may as well get a 75, the fuel economy is very nearly as good as the 1.1 and teh engine is a lot torquier.

If mine had been a 1.2 so be it but I chose the car not the engine!

First of all, do pass plus, then get insurance with Norwich Union, Like the advert says, they will quote you happy, and believe me they will. My first policy on a 1.1sx when I was 18 was 550 third party fire and theft, 890 if i went fully comp, seriously Norwich Union are the best for young drivers if you get pass plus, my mate got insured on a saxo vtr 1.6 as his first car at 18, for 600 third party fire and theft!

As for the difference in a 1.1 and 1.2, dont bother with 1.2, My mate has a 1.2, I have 1.1 with performance exhaust, induction kit, and I can beat him easily, its not worth it unless its not gonna cost you much more for the car/insurance, think about it its 0.1 litre!

Well NU wanted 1200 even with pass plus TPFT, £350 Uno, 17 year old for me. 10 months a go this is. This was with an alarm fitted and a low insurance postcode area. Only downside was that it is parked on the road at night.

Most likely that they have changed now. Tell your friend that if his car is worth more than about 2.5k, it is generally cheaper to insurance his car comprehensively and not TPFT.

Yeah norwich union I think are slightly better now because I know a few ppl who also tried to get quotes about a year ago and it was expensive then. My friends saxo is high mileage so its only worth bout 1800, his fully comp quote was 2000, probably worth it for the way he drives but you know what some ppl are like, they cant wait to get on the road so they go for the cheapest option.

the only problem with norwhich union is that the call centres have all moved somewhere else in the world. The people dont speak much english, and then try and explain what sideskirts are! It can be fun!

there also abit fussy about mods, they wanted £100 extra for slapping alloys on my car, plus your only allowed three mods then they wont insure u! think about it first!

My mum says im cool...even if my friends dont...

Norwich union are quite cheap for me and happily insure my factory fitted (well kinda ) abarth kit on my cinq

£1400 tpft, 20k miles pa, 1.1 cinqi worth £1500

tesco wanted £1800 as did most of the other guys i phoned, lowest before norwich union was £1650

I just brought a Punto 55 SX and i went with egg.com for the insurance. Fully comp with break down cover cost me just over £700 for the year. I got a quote from the Quote Me Happy place and they quoted me £1600, which didn't make me happy.
