hi, i'm hoping someone can help me. I've got a mk2 punto 2003 active with a factory fit CD player. I bought a lead which connects the CD-changer input (i don't have a cd changer) to a 3.5mm connector so I can plug in things like an ipod or music player etc. As shown in the pic the blue connector is the one i bought which goes to the 3.5mm connector and i removed the existing blank connector and put this one in its place - it is only using 3 of the 8 pins available. When i try using it, when i push the source button on the stereo it either comes up with tuner or CD (or NO-CD if there isn't a CD in it). It's as if i never put the lead in anyway. Anyone know whats wrong??

I'm trying to connect it to my phone which plays MP3's and have got a 3.5mm connector for it etc. My Brother has just suggested it could be that the stereo doesn't recognize MP3's, is this true?? is so what format does it recognise?

well, i tried a normal MP3 player with MP3's and WMA files on it (specific music player) and it doesn't work either, its not even recognising anything is there though

Are you trying to plug it into the cd changer input? I don't think you would get anything out of it unless you plug it in to an aux input.

yeh i am using the CD changer input - but that is still and auxillary input so it shouldn't matter

Have a look at this link, i don't know if it will help as it's not the same stereo but it seemed like the same problems you were having. The stereo not recognizing mp3 isn't true as it's not directly from the stereo (you're connecting it as an external device)

looks helpful!! cheers for that, dunno if it is actually helpful but i'll read through it all and i'll let you know, cheers

right, I have had partial luck - i have read in other forums that their standard factory fit CD/radio crashes from time to time and tries to access an optional CD-changer which isn't installed - when this happens in my car, with this lead plugged into the CD-changer input, it actually works as an aux input which is great. Except! it only works when the CD/radio 'crashes'/malfunctions. So looking at that website i might be able to 'trick' the system when i want to use the aux in, however that is a completely different stereo on that website and i'm not entirely sure what to do but i'll give something a go and let you know if I have any luck, unless anyone knows what to do please let me know (y)

If it is the same Head Unit as this

then check out posts #5 and#6

takes a while to get the knack but you don't have to connect any pins (y)

No, mine looks like this (don't think they are too different)

I have tried holding the SRC button while powering the unit on, but didn't work...

It won't work, the radio communicates with two digital serial leads (tx and rx) the only way to switch that head unit into aux (or rather cd changer mode) is with a plug in digital module that will send the radio all the signals it's looking for

The older radios like the one above aren't so complicated

Do you think the mod with the resistor might work?

Next option is to buy one of these: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/USB-SD-AU...S_In_Car_Audio_Players_PP&hash=item3cddd750f8
but are as expensive as a new HU (which I'm not interested in). The cable on the Yatour looks to have more pins than my cheap cable, so it should work.

no it won't work, a resistor across a digital circuit will do nothing anyway but its all been tried and it won't work
