hi,

wonder if anyone can help,

have a fiat punto sx60 1.2 r reg, and this morning the clutch started to make a creaking noise. cant remember if its when depressed or released, may be both. its just had a service and mot. it doesnt creak when the engines off, but does in neutral or when i change gear. the gears arent slipping and it sounds "springy".

can anyone help please?

Is the creak coming from the engine bay or the footwell?

If its the footwell the hinge on the pedle could need some WD40

Failing that it could be your clutch cable.

Both of which are cheaper than the actual clutch.

How many miles has your car done on its current clutch? Does it cruch when going into reverse when warm?

If its when the clutch is fully down your hearing a creaking noise it will be the release bearing low on grease it doesnt effect its performance but its a gearbox off job to get rid of the noise just dont sit in traffic with your foot on the clutch to save wearing it for now if thats the problem..

there is no crunching when reversing or anytime and the cars done about 55,000 i dont know if its had a cluch replaced since i bought it second hand 2 years ago.

and it sounds like its more from the pedal. i drove to work and it only started happening when i got there so it wasnt all journey.

thanx

this is what just happened to mine, the pedal has always creaked a bit on random occasions.

I eventually took the pedal's apart and put some grease in the little bush's and did it up nice and tight, most of the creak went away, but the actual clutch/gearbox was clicking and creaking.

a few weeks later I declutched in traffic (like I do a thousand times a day), and the pedal just went really weird, then light. and the car got stuck in gear, I couldn't declutch anymore!!

clutch release bearing or the other bit went!!!
Its just in the garage getting a new clutch fitted.
£80-100 labour and £55 for clutch, I tried myself, but I couldn't seperate the gearbox from the engine:(

If it is the baring I would get it done asap to save the embrasment of being stuck at traffic lights and everyone stuck behind you. Worst case scenrio is that the bearing could shatter through your gearbox too causing a more expensive damage :)

wanna see a shattered bearing, check my topic in general:D

the worst damage wasn' from the clutch basically exploding, but from incompetant unpatiant garage mechanics cracking my gearbox housing from not waiting for plus gas to do its job (they cracked it around the g'box drain hole, just waiting for them to magically fix a crack in an aluminium g'box on their part, I think I may be waiting a while:D ).

was listening to it on the way home, didnt happen all the time but seemed mostly when clutch pressed.

no gear slipping or ay other strange noises.

does this narrow it down?

is mr clutch any good? i have to drive it everyday and can only take it somewhere on the weekend.

Sorry to revive an old thread but I have a creak now, its not as described above though its more like when you walk on old floorboards and they creak under your weight sort of thing, its coming from the engine bay I think and if you asked me to pick something I would of said it was the engine mounts but this only started today after I got agitated being stuck behind a total pr*ck so wheelspun my car round a left hand junction to receive a huge bang come from underneath somewhere, car drives ok and clutch doesnt slip etc so what could the bang be and why the creak?

Hi, I know exactly what this problem is, it is the forward motion thrust bearing, these go on this gearbox all the time, now this is very important that as soon as you can get it replaced, and I strongly recomend replacing the clutch and also release bearing too, I would also change the clutch release fork arm as this is often overlooked and is only a 20.00 part,
Get it to a reasonable garage, not a clutch centre, as these gearboxes are prone for internal gear faults when the box is removed,
it needs replacing if the thrust bearing goes whilst your driving at speed , the bearing very often shatters and bits of it take out the syncromesh, leaving you box a bit buggered to say the least,
I have replaced 1000s of these, trust me i know about them, you are not alone,

Right, I have been out all evening in the car and I can report that its not my clutch, I did a few tests like rolling up to the lights in neutral and pulling off in a carpark etc under different conditions and it still creaks, its definately front suspension related and mainly when I turn left be it forwards or back and I'm nearly 100% sure that its the front left leg.
Maybe its a rubber bush or something but first thing that springs to mind is strut top.
Ziggy or Sei come help me with your wealth of knowledge :)
