I dont even have my JTD yet (picking up on Sat) but already I am making my devious plans *evil laugh*

One of the first things I want to do is to make it better on the motorways - I came from a Calibra (fancy cavalier) so it was born on the motorway. It will take some work to get the Punto like that but I can try.

I would like to get soundproofing to go under the carpet and behind the door panels - I believe a bit difference can be made there. Then I will see if there is a way to make the rubber seals around the doors better.

First off, what would people recommend to put under the carpet and behind the doors? Dynomat (or whatever) is quiet expensive, and I think you are paying for a name as the chavs buy it in bulk, stick a bit in their boot and claim the bass from their 6X9s is fantastic.

What other options are there?

from riding in H2dae's jtd, i think its quite quiet on the motorway

diesels seem the opposite to petrols, they get quieter, not louder :p

Oh the engine is fine, but there is a chunk more roadnoise that would be nice to cut out.

I'm going for a comfort cruiser look with this. A1 interior and sleeper outside.
Heaven!

How are you doing anyway Mr Serin, what happened to the cinque?

what year and spec is it?

I know with mk1 petrols, the top dog ELX models had extra soundproofing pretty much everywhere, it was like a heavy thick rubbery matting (about 0.5" thick!!), and the carpets were a nicer heavier quality too, sportings and gt's didn't get it, as they were weight saving:rolleyes:

I would assume the same applies with mk2s? although elx on mk2 means base model, before the active, dynamic, eleganza names came out?

Its an MK2, although I didnt think ELX meant base model I have a lot of electrics and colour coded stuff.

Either way, do you think layering a thick chunck of rubber underneath the carpets would help much?

Is there a cheaper alternative to dynomat

I would look under your carpets now, and then go to a scrapyard where theres a high end model and have a look under its carpets.
see if their are any OEM carpets/proofing that is thicker.
then for doors use dynomat or whatever proofing has a reputation.

also tyres can make a difference.

as for the rubbery bits, audi uses a two or three seal system:eek: theres a rubbery buffer bit, a rubbery bit with fur on it, and another rubbery buffer bit to the outside.
'tis whisper quiet considering

also rubber rings in shock mounts?? lexus did this in a more expensive fashion (or fluid anti vibration plates etc) to the toyota's to make them ride superquiet. you can also do this to most kit cars, simpling slot some rubber under the spring carrier and it makes them a lot quieter.

also put that sort of rubbery furry (short) carpet in the wheel archs, I know a guy with a Honda Jazz, he just got rid of his old one and replaced with a newer one, but this new one has carpetty stuff in the wheelarchs and it's quiet a bit quieter!!! especially when the roads are wet!

i used dynamat and dynashield spray on the doors of mine made a noticeable difference. I think fr/r arch liners s/proofed would make a big diff as most of the noise seems to come from the tyres

Excellent Ideas, keep em coming. I want to make the first Fiat that is quieter on the inside than a BMW. Not a 316 mind, their engine doesnt count.
