Hi all,

I have a 1.1 Fiat Punto. When I start the car from cold, in the first gear (until you get speed),the engine is shaking and the hole gear box. When the engine starts to warm up, this shaking is disapearig. I changed the clutch recently, because the mechanics where saying that is probabilly from this but it hasn't. I would apreciate if you could help me with this.

Thanks.

Have the checked ALL the engine mountings are in good fettle and secure?

Steve

I checked the mountings and everything looks fine. I will try to replace them but is wierd, it does that only when the engine is cold.

I didn't check the gear oil, but I will (anyway if there is not enough oil in it, some strage noise would've come out of the gearbox, but is not). I still think it might be an electrical problem. I also checked and replaced the spark plugs and it does the same. I will check the coil conections. I also wonder if one of the two coils is faulty. I don't know how to check them without having them replaced.

My 1.2 punto did the same, when you started it up the engine shook like mad and then it settled when it was warm, about two days later it overheated and it was the head gasket, the shaking must have been a sign it was on its way out....

Yeah mine did the same thing mate (n)

I have this problem since at least 6 months and if it would've been the head gasket, it would've been blown by now (the engine starts normal at the ignition - it does that only when I'm moving). I will try to have a look to the coils and electrical connections, to see if there is the problem.

i cant see it being an electrical connection since the car gets better as it warms up maybe a fuel related problem.. when starting it first time slightly press down on acc pedal rev it for at least over a minute then try driven..

You might be right PUNTO POWER. After I first started the car in the morning, I pressed the acc pedal for over one minute and the car started smoothly without shaking. I want to see if tomorow is giong to be the same. In this case I think, I will have to check all the fuel circuit to see were is the problem.(y)
