Having only recently found this site, another problem I suffered on my 2000 HLX Punto was when the exhaust fell off (after 55k miles). ATS fitted a new centre piece & back box for £180, but this hit the back axle at every turn or bump in the road and after a week worked loose and fell off. They agreed to try a different make which has been fine for 3 months until yesterday for the 1st time I had three large adults in the back and on a few bumps in the road the same banging of the exhaust back box on the back axle occured. This doesn't happen when there are two people in the back so I can't be bothered to get it changed again, but is there a problem finding the right fitting exhaust for Puntos?

Has no one else had a bad fitting exhaust fitted? I Mine is fine with 2 in th back but once there 5 in the car the back box hits the back axle!

kwikfit - £200 notes, and i'll never go to a fast fit place for anything again.

the factory exhaust was great, the motor just purred. Now it sounds like a rough old diesel, and yes, it smacks off the back axle when theres people in the back.

You'd find if there was a search that in Jan I had my 200W 8v ELX's exhaust fall off, at 50k miles. Kwik Fit wanted to do the whoe lot at over £200, so I went to my Fiat dealer who did the back bit for ~£140.

I very rarely have anyone in the back, and never 3, so I don't know if its going to scrape? And I was worried the new exhaust would change the car (noise, power, torque), but its absolutly no different.

My advice - go to a Fiat dealer, mine is NO MORE EXPENSIVE (okay, they're good people, and most aren't, so get a quote first and argue to get it down to a good price), and they can do a better job because they're specialists with Fiats, where as Kwik Fit want to make as much money from you in the shortest time.

had my mk1 exhaust done by national and had no problems so far... though i have noticed with some replacement exhausts on other puntos seem to have the back box rotated through 90° for some strange reason which can't be good

some exhaust places are a bit divi, they bolt the new bits on then clip it back on the rubbers, what they should do is put it together clip it back in place on the rubbers, then twist it around so nothing will catch, then do up the bolts. Watch them make sure they do it right.

For the first time in ages I had 5-up in my car on Saturday - the rear looked pretty low, but it was only for a few miles at low speeds. Even over traffic calming humps no scraping/banging. I have standard wheels and tyres and suspension.

I had a new exhaust fitted (main pipe and back box) by Hi-Q in Bentley (Doncaster) last summmer; 75 quid inc. fitting and VAT. Really can't fault it! It would have cost me more to buy and fit one myself. Even had a 3-year warranty, so should it break/fall off they'll replace/fix it free.
