Technical gearbox problem

I have punto 75 sx m reg 1200cc. When i put it into 5th gear it is just like neutral there is no 5th gear (it is a 5 speed box).
hope somebody can help.

check your linkage rods one may have popped off

are there more than one linkage rod ? if so where are they.
the one on the gearbox seams to be ok?

There are likely to be 2 cables as well, the thinnest of which is probably accidental reverse selection inhibit.

Unfortunately the cheap Porter book I'm looking at doesn't really help much beyond that.. there's not enough detail in the small fuzzy diagrams, or instructions for setting up or adjustment.

I'm still undecided if it was worth the 2 UKP..[:0]

don't think theres an "accidental reverse inhibit" isn't it lift-up reverse?

try a haynes manual

push-down reverse, impossible to select by accident.

I got car last week do you think the gearbox could have been replaced with 4 speed:I

Take it back.

AFAIK all (manual) Puntos are at least 5 speed - some are 6.

If the car is still under warranty, get it replaced under that.

is there any nosie's coming from the gearbox or has it leaked. i blew my gear box and i only blew 1st and reverse gears but the others worked fine. you might have blown a diff. and when you got the car did you not test drive it? you should always go through the gears to check for any whinning nosies you might have a dodgy gear box not uncommon for a fiat!! you can't take it back if you signed a recipet saying sold as seen. plus i think for £25 you could have got the AA out to check it!! would have saved you alot of money before you bought the car. gear box rebuild is expensive if you have blow a diff its a matter of time before the rest of them go

thankyou for all your help.my friend nose a guy that workes with gearboxes.he fixed it for £60.in the car.he took the end plate off the gearbox and used a tool made for punto gearbox

on my punto it would not go into reverse and it was acting like a 6th gear. u basically got a linkiage problem it will cost u about 60 pound to get fixed
