i was drivin round in my mk1 punto an i red circle lite appeared above the dials i pulled over lifted up the bonnet an the engine was really hoti stopped 4 a bit then carryed on driving slowly then the light dissapeared dus any1 no wat that lite meens im guessing it was becos the engine was 2 hot.

You sure it wasnt youre brake light? Sometimes the sensor on your handbrake can be very sensitive!

no it was just a a plain red circle its gon now so im not 2 concerned about it i fink it was just cos the engine was 2 hot i was doin 100 flat out on the motorway 4 quite a while lol

Its probably the Brake fluid light. Have a quick look at the level under the bonnet!!!

If its the one next to the temp sensor then it is saying you're over heating. On a related note, I got stuck in a traffic jam and this came on. I stopped the engine, but is this overheating normal or should i be concerned?

the reason my light come on is i fitted a new air filter rong so not enough air was getting to the engine to cool it down when i was on the motorway. I wudnt worry about it just get it checked out see what a proffesional has to say about it

No its not! Get it checked out, is your fan kicking in when it should?

I havnt got out to hear if the fan is going, and I can't hear it in the car. I took it to the garage and they said they couldnt get it to overheat and it hasnt since so i think it might be ok

Put the bunnit up m8 then leave the engine ticken over for bout 5-10 mins the fan should cut on but if you dont put the air filter in rite i dnt see why the over heating light would come on m8 kinda sounds dodgy if it is the red dot or the red with a sign like is its yer brake light (!) if its just a red dot it is the car overheatin if you dont find mayo on yer oil cap or oil in yer water could be some kinda air block in yer radiator or sumthin..
