I noticed that on start up (warm or cold) there is a diesel sound for about 1 -2 seconds, from my 2000 W Punto HGT. I spoke with the Fiat garage in my area and they said this is not anything to worry about hmmmmm ??

Otherwise the car is running superbly, has been service every 6000 miles from fiat dealers.

It takes a few seconds to get the oil pumping round the engine. So it's probably piston slap. Nothing to worry about if it disappears within 30 seconds or so. Might be more noticeable if the car's under duress after turning it on (starting off uphill).

Is more than likely the Advance Variator that is causing that sound. It manages the timing. Most do it.
