Headgasket went yesterday! i think it has been on it's way out for a month or so! gargae say £600 but my friend (macanic) says between £250-£300!

It still drives fine! i filled it up with water and collant on Tuesday! and by yesterday all of it had gone! the garage man had to put in a shed load of water!

I need to drive it about 5-6 miles to the garage! will it make it if i put more water in it! and is it worth getting fixed or just to scrap it!

Just had a service that cost £600 loads of bits needed to be done! + i put a new clutch in it 4 months ago! it's a 1.2 sporting r plate with 170000 miles on the clock! other tha that it's a good car! but the bills are adding up now!

Any advice would be appreciated! my g/f wants to just scrap it and get a brand new car! help!:worship:

Yuo seem to be a bit unlucky. Unfortunately the 1.2 16v (I assume it isn't the 1.6) is quite a bit more involved than the other FIRE engines and parts are a bit dearer.

Would be a shame to scrap it. Cost depend on how much you can do yourself and where you get the parts from. It is not as difficult to do as you might think. Have a go yourself.

I wouldn't have a clue where to start!

Yeah it's a 1.2 - i gotta try and get it to the garage tonight! so i'll have to take a big barrel of water with me to keep it topped up!

Well the only thing that hasn't gone wrong yet is the engine and gear box! touch wood! so i guess i will get it repaired and try to sell it for about £500- £600!

just had my head gasket go as well,only 47k on the clock,i was losing coolant as well and i just thought it was an air lock as i had all the gurgling noises in the glove box ,like your's my car ran fine,it idled a touch lumpy but ran fine,then all of a sudden driving it to work it overheated,took it to fiat who confirmed my diagnosis...cost me 475 quid that was for headgasket ,re-skim,timing belt,thermostat ETC......not bad i thought for a dealer....and also you get the year guarentee so if anything else goes wrong it all covered.....
