Am keen to get my door handles on my MK2b colour coded. First question is how do I get them off? Second question is how should i prime and prepare them for spraying?

You have to remove the door card and unbolt/unclip from inside the door.
Use plastic primer prior to colour, cat afterwards with laquer.

the door handels will need to be more than just primed and painted !!

send them to a bodyshop to get done if you want them done right , while your there get everything else you can c/c on the car

so what else do you suggest everybody does ? Weve all been doing it wrong all these yrs!

I have tried colour coding several times, and each attempt looks utter s***e! I cant seem to get an even coat (no matter how much i prep it), and cant get a nice glossy look (and the lacquer runs).

Use the search button at the top of the page, wil be loads of people that have asked the same question and got the answers they needed!

what about trying to smooth the handle down then prime paint and gloss etc if i were you though i'd practice on an old handle or similar surface so you don't spoil yours good luck

Good idea by alex there. It is most important to prep really well, may even have to sand with wet / dry before hand. I think you will have to use a degreaser to clean plastic so paint binds well!

yeh i aggree, to get good results prep is the best, i'll give painting my door handles ago after practicing on something and i'll let you know how i got on, good luck with your handles mate

Ive just got my door mirrors and door handles done for £50 so i thought that was great havent seen it yet tho picking the car up today, i decided not to do side strips cos they already got marks on them and i feel at some point im just gonna remove them so cant be bothered with them i will post some pics and show my new colour codes off

oh that's good for £50, where did you get it done??

It was my step dads mechanic mate called ed he does car paint in his spare time and said would do it for £50 since its like mate of a mate.

unless you are experienced yourself to do it and have the equipment, draper value
