Hello guys.

I'm new to the forum and hope you guys can help me out with a seriously odd problem. My punto seems to have developped a strange behaviour on idle which makes it rev around the 700 rpm mark (both when hot and cold) which in turn causes the car to vibrate markedly. It feels and sounds as if only 3 cyclinders were going, but when I rev it everything sounds and behaves normally... On the move I haven't noticed any change in performance and/or fuel consumption, to further complicate things. I've also tried several mechanics but to no avail since the ECU isn't spitting out any fault code and I dont' want them changing bits randomly since that could become quite expensive very quickly... I've being searching on loads of forums for people with similar problems but have failed miserably so far... :( Have any of you had a similar problem? If so, do you know what the cause is? It's frankly irritating and makes me feel sick when sitting in traffic, just to give you an idea of how much it's shaking. FYI it's clearly visible from the outside of the car too, so it's a significant vibration! :bang:

Hope you guys can help! :)

check for any air leaks on the intake system. Wouldnt hurt to put some injector cleaner in aswell.

By mechanics I intended Fiat dealers, sorry for not specifying that. WRT to error codes and in general diagnostics nothing at all comes out as if everything were fine... I'd assume that if some sensor, solenoid or electric component in general were dead or malfunctionning the examiner should pick up on it, might be wrong though... :? It's only mildly comforting to see that this isn't a straight forward issue to solve... Unfortunately I don't have any more info on the problem, but if you guys can think of anything I'd be glad to hear it so that I could point the dealer to that and see... :)

thanks again for the help,
S

I would have tried spraying carb/imnector cleaner around connections and intake manifold etc while its running and wait for the revs to pick up. But as youve had mechs on it already . . .

I've tried using injector cleaner and other similar products but the only result was that I spent money uselessly unfortunately... :( Mechs don't really seem to have a clue though... :bang:

I got same problem on my mk2b active sport 1.2 8v sometimes everything is fine then others on idle it like tries to catch my mate said who a mechanic like jumping to 700revs and when i press accel its fine like your problem i got no idea what it is so i just live with it no problems really my mate said just trying to catch a bite or something like that

Mine though is a diesel and I feel like I've been enduring this far too long... I find it really annoying since it happens frequently that I listen to my system with the engine on (aircon needed in this heat) and after 10 minutes you feel sick because of the juddring... which really sucks! (n) Fortunately though, as is the case for you, once on the move the car behaves normally in terms of consumption and performance...

Forget the codes, dealer should by selecting the appropiate parameters be able to observe air/fuel targets etc & pin point the fault.Examiner displays target & actual parameters so the comparison can easily be made.

Cheers mate! Guess I need to spend some time by their side to make sure what they're doing since I fear they're not really willing to pull out the stops to solve the issue... Nothing like a bit of breath down the neck to provide motivation... lol

Doubt if your allowed in workshop, health & safety, let them have the car for a day or two sure they will get to the problem soon enough;)

I've lost hope since 3 separate dealers saw it for a total of about a month and the car still judders as if nothing were... They're basically all stumped, or so it seems... :bang:

700rpm? That's not enough.

My JTD does 849rpm when it's in neutral. You said you tried everything and the guys @ fiat don't know what it is. Why not tune it up to 850rpm?

If there's nothing wrong ?
