ok im annoyed an i cant figure it out....so sum help would be great, at around 2 n half.....3 thousand revs ma exaust rattles for about 500hundred revs an then dissapertes....i figured sumtin was loose so i had a look but i couldt find anyhting :s, any ideas people?

It could be the internal baffles (hope spelling is right) in the exhaust pipe.

sounds like its a problem with the natural frequency of the exhaust... thats the problem... not entirely sure of the fix... would check all the brackets and ensure that nothing is rubbing against anything else or that any damping material has come loose...

oh and if its an after market exhaust then that would be why it is vibrating now... slightly different masses, braketry etc... if it is aftermarket then it probably has more mass therefore shifting the resonant frequency of the exhaust downwards and into the rev band... would look to add damping as lightening the exhaust is probably not an option...

I also have this problem but with a standard exhaust, any other suggestions?

i have a punto mk1 and i got a rattle on my exhaust, first of all it sounded like the rear window! but found out its the heat shield in the middle of the exhaust, the shield has rusted around the bolts and has broken so its now resting on the middle of the exhaust. its very annoying!!!!!

so i need a new exahust then? kus mines standard aswell....tis pissin me of now

Had exactly this problem, as stonie0101 said, it is the heatshield. It's on the catalytic converter, replacing that is gonna cost you quite a bit. I just took it to my local garage and they welded it a bit and the rattle has gone, got it done for free, but even if they charge you a fiver its gonna be considerably less than a new cat.
