Took my car back to the garage yesterday to see if he could tell me what was up with it. It's been juddering, revving on idle and generally misbehaving.

He couldn't find ot what was wrong, but gave me a number of a guy whole deal with Fiats. Spoke to him on the phone and he says its the Throttle body. He says common fault in Punto's, and only Fiat do the part and it costs £350, then on top there would be labour and VAT:eek:

Not good!!! I paid over 1k for the engone replacement, then another £110 on starter motor last week, and I seriously don't have over £400.

Are these figures right?

I am supposed to be using the car in less than 2 weeks, driving from here to Derby and back, then up to Edinburgh twice, thats over 700 miles. I don't even know if I could do that with the way the car is running, is it advised? Safe? I don't want to be stuck on the motorway again with my kids, it was so damn scary!!!

Don't know what to do. Please please advise, I feel totally lost *again*

Thank you Dave, you could be my (and kittens) life saviour, I hadn't thought of second hand in all my woeful panic:D

Cheers, I have emailed him. Fingers crossed now

are you sure yours isnt just getting air in around the gasket, where the cowboys who fitted the new engine didnt fit it back right?
spray wd40 around where tb bolts to engine, if engine revs go up when spraying its air leak

wow...run that by me again in girl terms please....slowly, I have wd40:) ...where do I go, what do I do please? And what do I do if that is the case?

Is there any way of checking it? Would a machanic be able to tell if it is the throttle body without doing too much? The guy I have been going to couldn't find anything wrong, but if I told him what the other guy had said do you think he would be able to check?

<scratches head>

Just had a thought, is this part of the engine that would have been replaced with the replacement engine? In other words is it from my old engine or the other one I have now? Sorry I don't know these things at all

well you know what throttle body looks like now as its in the ebay pic, with engine running spray wd40 around where it bolts onto the engine, (with engine running) if engine revs change you will just need new gaskets.
if you do get the used throttle body any one with a set of tools can change it :)

While its off give it a clean, mine was caped in oily gunk and was hunting when idling.
