Hi all - hope you can give me some advice before I take my 00 punto ELX to the garage - my lights are giving me problems, when I indicate, indicators seem to be all working fine, but warning light on dashboard is on. Then when I brake, while indicating at the same time, the clicking indicator sound speeds up fast (which I know means theres a problem, usually a bulb not working - but I've checked and there doesn't seem to be any dead bulbs - what happens is ALL the car lights are coming on when I brake, including front indicators! And at the back the indicator and brake lights are flashing together - don't want to get ripped off at garage - any ideas what the problem is? problem started with the rear, driver side brake and indicator lights flashing together! Thanks for any advice

Thanks - had similar problem before on the passenger side about a year ago, (but it didn't effect the front lights) and my brother cleaned up the earth point (I presume you mean the plastic connector thingy! sorry I'm a female and useless at this stuff!) it seemed to sort it out, - but this time its on the driver side and is worse - would the same problem have an effect on the front lights too? Thanks again for your reply and sorry for being so dumb! Have my blonde head on this morning! Any advice greatly appreciated!

poor earths can cause all kinds of problems.years ago i had a renault 5 turbo which would light up the whole dash when i pressed the brakes
basically every electrical component is earthed via the cars shell which in turn is connected to the earth/- on the battery.
if the power cant earth via its own earth connection it will try and find a route to earth hence the weird symptoms.
clean up the connectors to the lights, also look for wires that connect to bolts on the body work as these are earths too. unbolt them and clean the surfaces with a fine sandpaper or even a handy nail file ;)

Thanks! You're a gent! I'll get it checked out but at least I can go in and say I've an idea what the problem is! :)
