Technical anti roll bar bushes

Dear members,

I have been getting strange noises from my car when I go over small bumps. A user suggested I spray the anti roll bar bushes with WD-40. Where are the anti roll bar bushes? Would appriciate some advice. Thanks.

What car have you got mate?

Punto mk1 my kind the bar is a thin.. bar that is just in front of the main suspension arm at the front and just behind the suspension arm at the rear. At the front, look for a bar running into the arms, which have holes in them. The bushes are in a clamp like thing just before the wheel.

Now here's the thing. Spraying the bushes is unlikely to make any difference at all. Bushes are either worn or they're not. Some insist on never spraying them with anything at all in case it damages the rubber. Really, it's best to remove the bar and check the condition of the bushes. If they've had it they're easy and cheap enough to replace, but it may require a wee bit, or a great deal of brute strength to put the new ones in.

In any case, for your symptoms, I'd suspect the roll bar less and teh suspension arm bushes more, as they usually go first. Unfortunately on the Punto these aren't a knock/cut-out and bang-in job, the whole arm must be changed.

Thanks for the advice mate. I have a MK2 punto. I have been getting strange noises for a while. I suppose the garage is the best place to take it to as i don't have a clue about motors.

did u get the bushes replaced? I've got similar squeaking probs and I believe it most likely the bushes, but im told replacing the bushes involves taking off the axle, wheels, brakes and then pressing the new ones in, so quite a lot of labour.

Fiat said around £130 + vat to do bushes, but may get away with greasing the suspension.

How much did it cost u?

i had the same problem with the brushes. They stopped making the brushes for the antiroll bar, so u had to buy a brand new antiroll bar . i Got it for 60pounds from a car place whicg was at trade price
so i dnt no how much they are else where. It might be only some puntos
mines a mk 1 sx85 16value 1.2i .
