My Sporting has just turned 6 years old, (born in 2000) and along the top of my windscreen are rust bubbles  I think it has the original windscreen as it says FIAT in the corner and there is nothing in the wad of history to say it's been replaced.
Maybe the robot galvanisers missed the roof on my Punto :(

Is there anything I can do? I'm sure there will be clauses to the anti-corrosion warranty ?

yeah you have to have them do the check every year or something like that which no one ever does so voids there warrenty straight away, check your service book, it will tell you in that

Thanks LanciaMad - thats shocking the check thing that you describe above.
I also don't have a service book as the previous owner couldn't find it and has never sent it along as she said she would.
I have a big envelope with receips in and stuff thats all :(

I'm pretty sure its not a stone chip as the paints intact but starting to bubble up, if that makes any sense.

Could be, i'm not sure if its worth getting a bodyshop to sort it out before it gets worse, either way its gonna cost.

iv got the exact same thing 2000 sporting rusting under the paint in the exact same place on both sides ... i used a touch up kit on it ... looks crap if your up close cause its metallic and they never match ...but it was only a tiny bit and i wanted to stop it before it got worse... some1 told me you could try sealing it to stop it getting worse by just puttin the clear enamel glaze thing over the bubbles but i didnt want to risk it seeing as it was under the paint anyway (n)

i hope this isn't a common problem, i just bought a 2000 Punto!

Check the back of the roof as well.

Lift the black rubber strip up at the back and see what state is in under there. Mine didn't look to good, so pushed it back down and forgot about it.

Job for another day as I can't quite afford to replace the car just yet...

I own a 2000 Punto Sporting on a V reg, ive got heaps of docs with mine and its had a new front windscreen. also in one of the docs when it had its 30,000 service from fiat the rust bubbling was "sorted out" along with a few other problems. the rust bubbling round the screen is there but its bearly visible as most of it is under the rubber seal.

Think it was done but not to a very good standard. probibly due to fiat doing it, oh yeah it was done through the fiat anti rust paintwork policy free of charge! if this helps!(y)

quite likly to be stone chips!! after fitting my new bumpers on the drive home (hadn't even been on car 3hours) my car got the worst pebble dashing ever from a gritter!! took the total number of stone chips from about 20 small ones and 1 big one, to over 200small ones and about 6 cracking great big ones!!
worse none of them went thru the primer so my dark green car has loads and loads of white paint showing!

stone chips aren't covered by warrenty unless there is an unusall amount of them and/or lacquer is badly blistered too (usually a cause of washing your car with hot water(n) )

Mines definatly not a stone chip as the rust is under the paint if that makes sense, to be fair my brothers 'heap of shi*e saxo' is the same.

its a common problem on the mk2 punto. my girlfriend has a 2000 sporting which so far has a rust patch under the paint on the roof under one of the rubber strips near the windscreen, also the same under and around one of the bump strips on the rear quarter, and also on the front of the bonnet, and all 3 are definately not due to stone chips as all the paint is perfect it just has rust bubbling under the paint.

i've seen dozens of the mk2 in scrapyards over the last few months and it is definately not uncommon to see rust on them, especially on the roof. looks like fiat still deserve their reputation for building rust buckets. my girlfrined isnt happy at all, but its hard to justify the cost of a respray for a few rust bubbles. the mk2.5's seem rust free so far, although they are younger so time will tell. i've unofficially heard that the early mk2's didnt get galvanised. maybe thats the problem. i have noticed stonechips on my girlfrined's car and i cant see any evidence of the grey galvanised coat, just a thin layer of paint that flakes off to reveal bare metal. and the stonechips do rust quickly.

in contrast my bravo has stonechips that look very old and none of them have any rust. there is a clearly visible grey galvanised layer over the metal bodywork. the paint can flake off but the galvanised layer remains, even on big deep chips.

all i can say is tut tut
