Have you checked the fuse, have you checked the conector on the screen sometimes they snap off.

Also check the relay, I'm not exactly sure where the thing is mounted as I've never had to check it but in my car there's a "click" from under the dash around the drivers' footwell area. If memory serves me there's a fusebox around there somewhere?

i repaired a simalar problem today ...was jist a disconnected spade!! you pushed the button and the light came on but no heater !!!....buy a test lamp and push the contacts against the XX-- connecters in the tailgate withthe switch i (mk 1 definately!!)XX being the first two from left to right X-X- always seem to be live and X--X seem to be the wiper motor!! hope this sort of helps...if not ill try to answer when sober !! :)

I get the opposite prob with mine, heater works but the light doesn't! So I'm always leaving it switched on without needing to. Just another of those little things that I don't care about enough to fix

What are you measuring, volts or amps? What kind of value should I expect when testing it?

no continuity....it should have an option to beep if a circuit is there

oh and the test lamps a different bit of kit....basically a 12v lightbulb with two probes...on!! one end to the earth (first contact) the other th the contact your testing (in this case 2nd) if the bulb lights up when the heater is on then the power is there....fault lies in the tailgate
