iv just sorted eveything out on my punto now just some spraying to do and the sunroof needs fixin does any1 no why when i press the button to open the sunroof it doesn't move just buzz's like a bit*h, the runners r on ok and its not jammed do u think its the motor?? any ideas please??:p

on most cars the motor just simply replaces the manual crank arm,so you can get a manual crank arm from the scrappys and see if it moves the glass.oh replacing drive cables is a bitch of a job,i usually just source a replacement sunroof

Remember when you moaned about ur punto last time i told u my sunroof packed in well ye it was the belts ! sounds like thats ur prob ! its the teath of the belt slipping that make the noise! ether worn or streched belt! not sorted mine yet!

A girl phoned me the other day and said, 'come on over; nobody's home." I went over. Nobody was home.

Sorry to drag up such an old thread, but I am having the same problem as this,
the sunroof on my mk1 Sporting raises only, and about 2-3 inches at most.

If I use the manual key, it raises further and also slides completely back. When I try to push the button I get the whirring noises also.

Is it hard to replace the belts, and where can I get a set of them ??

Thanks

on later mk1's with the electric roofs they have like solid pipes with cables in (or maybe belts).

I would suggest just trying to swap an entire working one over if that is teh problem.

but first, take motor out and make sure it has all its teeth and they are in good nick, also check the cog in the roof for quality and fit.

if both are fine, then its something worse.

What your saying is, the motor raises the roof about halfway (they go up to like 35degrees on mk1s!!!) then the motor continues on whirring but the roof don't move?? If so, thats belts/drive cables fecked.
