havent got a clue where to start with this, ive got a punto mk2 1242cc 16v,
in the proccess of being modded, whole lot. my mate has told me i can go about getting a 1747cc 16v engine in it and its a pretty simple job for any mechanic. is this true, anybody know of prices or good places to get it done? i just need some more power. or anyone know of by modding how much more power i can get out of my 1242?
thanks

You can make your Punto more powerful whit Turbo then Punto HGT...
Just you get:
1.Turbo some garrett T2,T25 or T3
2.intercooler from lancia turbo
3.Biger injectors like 250-300cc
4.New fuel pomp
5.Some piggyback like SMT6...

Then you can boost to 0,4-0,5 bars whit standart pistons and compresion...
For more boost you most get a metal head gasket to make compresion 8:1...
;)

you make it sound so easy! to replace the engine with a 1.4 turbo lump you have to change all the electrics aswell, including engine, wiring, other parts and labour you will be talking about £3000-£4000 just not worth it! buy yourself a proper sports car knowing it will be reliable! pulsar GTiR for example.

i like my punto though, got it looking just how i want it. im just gona have to buy sum engine mods to increase my bhp slightly. not too bad how it is, still puts up a challenge, i jus like to feel the speed. dont want anything too fast, i cant be trusted.

Going for a different engine always is an option when money isn't an object. Making a turbo conversion from a normally aspirated engine is not a walk in the park. Most of the people who talk about it haven't done it and the few who have done it never give you the full story because of the embarrasment.

Fitting the 1747 engine isn't a straight swap either. You need the gearbox etc as well. Then you need to rewire the engine bay for the ECU. Your best option in this case is getting a stand alone ECU.

The 1242 16v is not a bad engine. We have managed to get out of it 102lbf ft without even going mad. If you like your car, go for some of the modifications. If you want a bigger engine buy the car that comes with it. Otherwise you will regret the decision.
