Just wonderin should the head gasket on a Punto be Skimmed, if so does this not damage the head even further in the long run??

my HG went recently and the mechanic took it to be skimmed and it turned out it was as flat as holland - thats on the fire engine too. so its only required if the head has warped at all

Yeah they don't always warp but you should always get them checked the gap between the bores on these engines is tiny & any blow by between bores will eventually erode the head (usually) occasionally the block as well. I always use SPESSO gaskets a bit more expensive but long lasting some of the aftermarket gaskets are crap (even Italian ones) & even if replacing gaskets is not that difficult its still a PITA.

Haynes manual is probably the best way to go, although it does involve a bit of page flicking due to different parts of the task being in different sections, i've followed it to the stage where i can now pull the head off and get it skimmed. If i can do it, anyone can! :)
