Was goona get bodyshop to do my mirrors and handles but I thiught may aswell do it myself as I can spray pretty tidy. Thing is Halfords dont sell my colour ready mixxed and I was wondering if anyone had ever used Halfords to mix them an aerosol? If so what was the colour match like? Thanks.
Heres a pic of my old Sei interior I sprayed

Car is steel grey. Iwasreadigaguideosprayig mirrors and handles and it said to leave the handles/mirrors on the car and to mask the whole car lol. Way easier just to remove the stuff you want to spray I reckon.

they arn't bad but not perfect because you basically have to weight out the paint, and the scales are sometimes inacurate.

on top of that fading cant really be taken in to account as it differs on all cars, (depening on age, and even where it's kept during the day, garage, road side)

a mate of mine got a panel resprayed after a ding, and even the body shop had to blend the colours in becase they couldn't match the colour, and that was just a silver...

not perfect but **** loads cheaper that a body shop...

Having done this for Halfords for a few years now, here's the lowdown :p. You're all right, the colours we mix up are for a car in brand new condition, hence if the rest of the car has faded, it won't match as well. Also, the scales can be inaccurate (although this is down to the store, the 2 I worked at had perfectly balanced, clean scales to ensure they were accurate) which can cause colour misbalance.

There are also conversion factors to consider; our paint derivations come for 1Litre tins, so we have to convert everything to 100ml (i.e. x0.10), which means it's innacurate to 0.1g.

Then there's the employee who mixes it; the slightest bit too much (I got the technique going where I could control it to the smallest drop) and I'd throw it all out; some employees won't as their managers will be compaining about store erosions, so they'll keep going . . .

My advice would be; take it for what it is; the pre-mixed one's are actually pretty good, and as for the mix-up ones, try it first on an inconspicuous area!!!

Note: We don't offer Refunds :D

OK I will just get some and see how it goes. Was thinking of getting a pair of mirrors but aint much point as I can do them over a couple of days when off work so wont need car to get about.

I went to Halfords and got them to mix up a 'sprint blue' colour from my MK2 punto - I gave them the paint code and they said of the screen is it 'blue sprint' to which I replied yes

they mixed it btu showed me it before they put the aresol lid on and it was a turquose green colour :bang:

I said it wasn't correct, they were adamant it was, I showed them my car the said ''OH'' then thought for a few seconds to think of an excuse. The excuse was that there must be 2 shades of the fiat blue and they only have the info for this different shade and that there wass nothing they could do and I would have to go to fiat for the colour:cry:

I rung fiat and they do not to paint in aresol

I tried various differnt paint mixers who only do it trade - I only want 1 small bloody can to spray my mirror - how hard can it be to find the paint!! :bang: :bang:

Anyone got any ideas?

put what town you are in, it may help peopler to point you to the right place.

Cheers

Well im tempted to get some mixed up spray its Nero 601 (black) for my mk1 punto, but looked in halford in HEMAL, and cant seem to see a paint mix places but found a can of fiat black spray and give or take the slight bits its the same :D so thats pretty good :) ok u halfords crew! where is the nearest paint mixing place from the hemal store? ne ideas? :)

Have had excellent results with pre-mixed Halfords aerosols for my BM. Have had two mixed up for my Ducale Grey Punto. I sprayed the first one onto the car, gave it a few coats but it was still silver! Watched as the guy mixed up another one in the pot and got him to show it to me before he put it in the can, it was more like anthracite. This is despite the car matching their colour swatches perfectly.

Have resolved to try somewhere else. Nothing against Halfords, if they have a guy that is a roof rack specialist and a guy that great with paint then it's just your luck who's free at the time.
