Hey,

First of all i hope this is in the correct place, if not then sorry :bang:

Well i have got a few problems really, i will list them first then explain in as much detail as i can.

  • Interior Heating
  • Temperature Gage
  • Cooling

Interior Heating is being very tempermental sometimes just pumping cold air out, on whatever the setting it still is same heat.

Temperature Gage rises very dramatically and goes in the red but only at times when the Heating is not working correctly.

The water in the engine seems to need refilling every 2-3 days it does not lose lots but it loses more than expected.

Once the water has been topped up then all the other problems seem to work for a while longer, but then after a short period they arise again.

Can anyone help me out please.

Thank You
Stuart

Have you checked for a leak while the engine is running? most of the time you wont find leaks unless there is pressure in the engine/ hoses etc.:(
I never have to top up my mrs,s punto sporting and its used on a daily basis!(y)

I will check for the leak later on, but there seems to be no wet pipes or anything so i don't think it will be that, also with the head gasget how likely is it to be that and how is it fixed.

thanks
Stuart

Sounds exactly like a headgasket to me.

Check for mayo under oil filler cap. Get a compression test done. These will confirm whether it is a HG.

Prices vary from £250-£500 depending where you go. Its not too difficult to do yourself, as it involves replacing the gasket, but you will need to get the head skimmed by a specialist (the face ground down a few mm, so it is perfectly flat)

Try not to drive the car

yeah check for mayo under cap also check for brown sludgy stuff in coolant als if it is just leak check under car when engine running sister had leak in her water water pump area i thin it was but only leaked when engine running and could only see leak frm under car.

saying that how ever i am leaning towards headgasket problem.

Hey,

Quick update...

It was the head gasket and is in the garage at the moment being fixed, they are charging £250, with that get a full service and a courtesy car.

So not to bad really, pretty pleased with it, although the car they gave us is a Mondeo and it is a shed but never mind gets us around for 48 hours.

Thanks for all the help you gave me.

thats not a bad price for a garage job (y)

Might be worth ringing them, and asking if they are replacing the water pump, cambelt and tensioner too. They're not expensive parts, and are very easy to do with the head off. Also, if the engine has actually overheated (steam and stuff) then i'd look at a new thermostat as well. Again, a cheap part - but they can jam open if they get too hot.
