started car put into reverse ...went about 2 foot and stopped........engine ticking over and everything but really loud and and loud electrical clicking noise from underneath the bonnet ...(sounds from the back of the steering wheel console)...........oil is fine in gearbox and engine

it is a 96 punto sx selecta with 50 k on the clock......any ideas and how much ?

2 more seriously sounds like your gearbox just threw a wobbler, maybe its slidy weird auto box interior parts had a bit of play in them, and one bit has just fowled the whole lot up.

that electrical flip flop is the electronic gearchange inhibitor relay flicking backward and forward.

try munching it into neutral and pushing it a bit down the road, (with engine off), then start in neutral (not park, if it will let you) and try to get it into D or 1 and see if it will move.

Might just be that it had an odd day, or it might be that your autogearbox looks like this one
