hi

got my car about 3 days ago now (2001 mk2 8v) and have noticed a ticking tapping noise coming from the engine , the noise is not there when i start the engine up from cold but starts to come on after about 10minutes driving when the engine heats up. The noise kind of makes the car sound like a diesel engine when listening to it from inside the car , can be heard only when at idle or when at traffic lights etc , you dont really hear it when driving.

i took it back to the dealer yesterday and they inspected it and told me that it was a common problem with 1.2 puntos and the problem was causeed be a moving or loose camshaft (cant remember which one ). they said that they were going to do nothing about it because the movement was within there tolerance range and was told if i wanted the noise to be removed i would have to pay around £400 :bang:

my question is , is this a common problem with the puntos as they said and do you think i should get back on at them to fix the problem. They said that the fault wont damage the engine and it will be ok , but this noise is really starting to get on my nerves lol as the car was pretty quiet when i first got it

Do you know what tappets that need adjustment sound like ???? Is it this noise or don't u know.

If its like a mk1 they cannot be adjusted but the shims can be changed.

I've never heard of a camshaft moving...(an I dont mean round and round...lol)

If you say it was quieter when you first has it all though only 2 days ago surely you have some rights.....Maladjusted tappets/moving camshaft will not damage your engine but I dunno whether it will affect performance/mpg.

How about if you have no luck try causing a scene.. They dont like this u know..lol

possible just injection, injectors are noisy and do seem to get worse as they get older and hotter. Nothing you can really do about it and it doesn't affect performance

My 55S sounds a bit tappety when it warms up might check the tappets when I change my 'rocker' gasket I think Fiat have used the same size shims on their engines since the first OHC engines also worth knowing Volvo use the same size shims on some of their engines but a different range of thicknesses - can be useful.

yeah i think i know what the tappet sound is and this noise that im getting doesnt really sound like the tappets.

The car has done 38769 miles since 2001.

phoned the garage again today and they once again told me that they couldnt do anything as it was within there tolerance range and it was normal wear and tear , however they did offer me a 6 month warranty on the camshaft "in case it blows on me" they said lol , which i suppose is something

looks like im going to have to just live with the noise

Especially when you bought the car new from them.

It will make a tappety noise but you can't do much about it, even a private garage won't be able to make em perfect and will cost you a fortune in the process.

Spark Plugs? Maybe you need a new one or a whole new set?

could be piston slap common on punto my 1.6 16v stilo is making a metalic knocking type noise is this the same type of noise you are getting

Can you advise me what the tappets clicking noise is like please??
the clicking I am getting is as soon as I turn on and gets faster when I press accelerator.

Sounds like the car engine is ticking over but VERY loud.
