Hi All!!!

Bit of a strange one here on my HGT punto...

my dashboard display has gone completely, my speedo, rev counter, fuel display, mileage, time etc etc... everything has stopped working

the car will still start however and all the actual equipment still works such as wipers, lights etc - its just there are no lights on my dash to show anything works.

So naturally i thought, it must be the dashboard fuse. I changed this but it made no difference.

Im starting to worry about the cost of fixing this.

has anyone any ideas???

did u try all the fuses for the dash? cos i noticed there are fuses everywhere in my car!! i know there are sum under the boonet as well - wen i took one of those out of mine everrthing went dead on me!! lol.

thanks for the reply.

I tried this actually - after looking round the owners manual, i found the one i was looking for. However, after changing the problem was exactly the same.

However, there is HOPE! I called FIAT and spoke to an electrical guy. He said he has seen this before and it turned out to be a loose connection on the ignition switch.

He then said i can unscrew a panel below the steering column and have a hunt around for the loose connector.

Im really hoping this fixes it cos otherwise they will have to hook the car up to the diagnostic machine and then i'll just have to standby and watch the ££££££ signs fly by!!!

Has anyone ever heard of the fix described above ? Is it easy to do?

not good news im afraid.

I took the car to FIAT and they diagnosed a faulty instrument cluster and want to charge me £550 for the pleasure of changing it.

Does anyone know whats involved in swapping the dash over? Simply lifting the old one out and the new one in is easy enough. But what about programming the mileage etc. Is it easy? costly?

not really wanting to part with £550 so i did a bit of calling around. I can get a brand new instrument cluster for an HGT for £280 inc VAT from another FIAT garage.

so i could buy it, fit it myself quite easily. But is there any electrical issues that any one knows about and how to i set the mileage etc.

any help would be greatly appreciated!

Mileage is set by examiner but cannot put mileage 'backwards'.Get one from a scrapyard or secondhand on the net(ask if anyone has one here in the wanted section).....cars do go wrong so its wise to budget for such outlays.....I have spent over a grand in last 6 months(non-Fiat) but thats life!

thanks,

quite difficult going second hand with this stuff. Apparently, i cant simply put any Punto HGT cluster into my Car.

I called three seperate Fiat garages and they all said the same thing. I had to provide them with my cars Chassis Number so they could match up the exact cluster for my HGT. One Garage said there was 19 HGT clusters, some in KPH and some MPH and they then narrow it down by chassis number and order them direct from FIAT.
