My wife's Mk 2 Punto doesn't get a lot of use at the moment and I want to charge the battery up before it goes flat, like it did last winter. Then, I disconnected both terminals (leaving the battery in situ) and it charged up fine. When it was reconnected, there was some odd warning light displays, which corrected themselves over time. Was this caused by the full disconnection? If so, is it ok to charge up while both terminals still connected? I don't want to cause problems either way.

Can you tell us what warning lights that come on?
What is the engine on that car?

I am not too sure that was caused by leaving the battery unplugged. I left my battery disconnected for 3 months once, and I did not get any warning lights.
