hi, when driving i hear and knocking going over bumps and get worse with more weight in car, i think it might be the springs as they are covered in rust so i want to replace the rear springs, i do not know if this will fix issue but they need replaced anyhow i feel.
can someone advise of spring that go well for this model car, i have seen prices range from £8 upto £43 so am hoping i could get some good advice on here, any help is most appreciated, many thanks

just this
Monitor and repair if necessary (advisories):
Offside Front Brake pipe corroded, covered in grease or other material (1.1.11 (c))
Offside Rear Brake pipe corroded, covered in grease or other material (1.1.11 (c))

Sorry I have no idea if a 8 pound spring is going to be any good. But it is not so difficult to change the springs. But why are you getting this noise?

An 8V car without ABS has a bracket on the rear axle that operates a brake balancing valve. With more weight in the car the mechanism can be loose and it rattles around a bit. Others have reported this being a noticeable knocking sound.

just out of interest, have you checked the rubber exhaust hangers.
I had one break on one side, and this caused the exhaust to flex when going over bumps, and the exhaust knocked on the chassis. Cheap and easy fix. get under the car, and wiggle the exhaust up/down, and side to side. if the exhaust touches bodywork anywhere, thats your answer.
worth trying before doing anything more major...

thanks, i checked today and its the rubber hangers split and was hanging on by a thread, i have been able to but the hanger and exhaust in place and cable tied around the rubber to protect the tie, this should be ok until the new hanger arrives. thanks, just leaves me to ponde the springs, i will look into how to change them and then decide which ones to buy, thanks

does anybody have any tips for changing springs please?, just using house tools and axle stands, i dont have a jack other than the fiat one in boot.
should i change anything else while i am at it, i was thinking both the top and bottom rubber maybe?, but any tips are very helpful, thanks

I cannot help other than tell you the fiat jack can be deadly. On my jack the hidden 'Nut' part of the jack was destroyed and the visible 'bolt' part of the jack looked fine. I only realised this when I could not raise the car above the ground. The potential for a jack like this to hurt you is a very large one.

am only using it to get it up onto the axle stands then they will take the weight, but thanks, i will proceed with caution.

thanks for the advice i do appreciate it.
just another thing, where online do you get your parts from for fiat punto mk2's, i know what part i need but am worried about the quality of the product and was hoping to find out the best place to order parts from other than fiat of course,
if there is a post about this please put a link in as am new to site and have not got around it all yet lol many thanks
