Apolagies been here a while seldom post. Daughter has had a 2005 1.2 8v 60hp punto, has had 5 years.
She has a radiator leak, barrs done nothing for.Thought i had it figured, anyway went to strip it all out today, before ordering , Radiator, was going to put new thermostat and do timing belt water pump, as that was done 5 years ago.
Anway off with gubbins fan etc, Once fan off noticed metal like solinoid type things on radiator n.s.different from anything i found on the net, Also found two steel pipes going to what looks like another radiator behind the main one. On the expansion bottle side, there are like crimped fittings on but nothing looks as though it is bayonet or squeeze to release and no visible nuts to undo. these steel pips run up and to the inner offside wing around front strut.
I also now reckon bumper has to come off, to get at it all. Be fun as she was in bump as rusted screws and bits of engineering to get all back together after straightening out.relish the thought of putting back.
Long story what are these additional bits on radiator ie solinoid and cable thing? What is the additional radiator with steel pipes ,and how do they disconnect? Might have been part of original but seperated in time.
Many thanks John.

No aircon in use as far as i can tell. lol
Checked book and car old fashioned nobs nothing indicating aircon. Correction one steel pipe goes to alternater area not sure of unit, but the tooth belt goes around this this is to rear of crank shaft pulley nothing to do with, the other pipe goes behind dash then i think comes back to wonder if its a pump or something for ac ran by alternator belt.Wheels are gong on figuring this have to go out.

Aircon is usually on/off with the fan switch, either push in or pull out, then little LED glows in centre of switch. Should have a little snowflake symbol on it.

If the aircon has not been run in a while, the seals may have dried up and the gas leaked out. If gas pressure is too low as a result, aircon pump will not run.

Extra radiator and pipes are definitely aircon. Gas is a greenhouse gas, and should not be released. Should be possible to replace coolant radiator without disturbing aircon connections. If aircon does need removal, gas should be evacuated by a professional, then regassed once all back together. Any aircon connection undone should be sealed to prevent air entry, as that will introduce moisture, needing a new dryer unit before regassing.

Think if i take bumper off i can remove air con panel, from mounts looks like poss hooked on bottom of radiator, (see if i can get in with bumper on popped radiator of mount bushes which highlighted leak)and clips on radiator fan housing when fitted, think i wouldnt get air con panel, on without bumper removal and new radiator in , need another look wondering connect all electricals back up. Be safe enough to forget about aircon just leave but not use that ok.

Aircon gas will leak out of any tiny gap. The gas has a small amount of special lubricant added, which lubricates the pump, and keeps the seals moist. Without this circulating, the seals shrink and allow the gas out. Any aircon system should be run regularly, at least once a month for 10 minutes to keep it all working well. Come the summer, won't your daughter appreciate the aircon?

If not used, the pump seizes, requiring replacement, and the seals at each joint shrink. They are cheap, but cost a lot of labour to replace. If it works now, use it. If it does not work, it devalues the car. A car with non-working aircon is worth less than a car without aircon.

You do not need to remove the bumper to get to the engine radiator.

The black radiator shroud the fan is fixed to goes under the engine radiator to hold the air con radiator. You unscrew the clips at the top that steady the air con radiator and then lift off the air con radiator from the lugs on the shroud and the shroud comes free.

Okay folks. Out looking tonight, Now fan is single valeo, Iam certain the nearside of the aircon connects or clips on to the fan housing when fitted, On the offside where the expansion bottle is how is the aircon radiator for lack of a better word connected to radiaitor trying to see, think spring clips. wont see better until i disconect hoses and drain down. to be honest i found a hole in the ac radiator so thats probably goosed

The air con radiator is just resting on top of the fan housing. It has to be lifted up. There are two clips at the top of the fan housing that need to be removed to allow you to lift only the air con radiator.

If the aircon radiator (condenser) has a hole, all the gas will have escaped. Air will have entered, taking ambient moisture with it. If its been like this some time, all the seals will be dry, and pump may be dead as a result.
Proper repair would be new condenser, renew pipe seals, replace dryer (a pot of dessicant that absorbs moisture), regas and test. May then need ungas (is that a word?), replace pump and regas again.

Or leave as is, and let poor daughter roast on hot days. Whether you choose to tell her that the car once had aircon, is up to you, of course. Unless she finds her way onto this forum.

Not fussing on the Aircon working.
Anways got radiator out tonight, there were two 8mm headed screws down the back of a bracket on aircon which fastened air con to radiator expansion bottle, So the other side fits to the fan housing.
Now tricky bit is getting radiator & aircon radiator fitted together without bursting new radiator, might still be bumper out of as there was a lot of twisting and twoing and frowing trying to get in couldnt use a socket had to use a 8mm round spanner.have a look at when new radiator arrives, trying to figure a way around taking bumper off Only dilema found a cable/plug at back of air con i am pretty certain i did not disconect there is no other socket. as i can account for the one at the bottom of the fan , and the two small ones at top of fan going to solenoid type thing on fan. nowt else to be fund

Well radiator arrived, Not bad ordered wed night due tues.arrived 15 mins ago. under £40, Decided taking bumper out as it will be easier getting ac radiator and coolant raidiator fitted and joined. as it was tight getting the old out, dont want to burst the new one.

Well got there today. Never took bumper off. Hands half my size and extra pairs would have helped me. kept radiator in cardboard wrap, to protect during the wriggling about to fix, Put car front end up as high as i could on ramps slowly filled with radiator bleed plug out, when at mark ran it with bleed plug back in and bottle cap off, heating on full blast plenty electric fan cutting in, temp guage mid range, hot air. ran with cap back on bottle, no issues yet, and daughter has been out for an hours drive, hopefully sorted. thanks to all for help and guidance. And the ac doesnt work which we are not fussed on. My own car i only use air con once or twice a month for a short time to cycle it, As honestly i dont like it on hot days it chills me to the bone and makes me feel sick. i like window down and the warm breeze, got deflectors fitted to all windows.
John.
