I think you are looking at the wrong side of the radiator or the angle you took that photo does not help.
The hose you are looking for looks like the large one in this pic and it is located at the bottom part of radiator, usualy left corner when you face the car.

The picture is very difficult to gain a sense of orientation from. Is it taken from the bottom looking up? If you look to the left of the hose labeled No 3 you can clearly see the radiator fan motor and to the right of that same hose is a glimpse of the radiator matrix. At the top of the picture is what looks like part of the bell housing/gearbox casing, but, if it is then it's the "wrong" way round to my mind, because the gearbox is on the left side (passenger side on our right hand drive vehicles) whereas the gearbox looks to be on the right of this picture?

So I'm very confused. Can you take some more pictures maybe from further out so we can see some more recognizable components and maybe from the top too?

If I had to take a bet on it I'd pick hose No 2 as it does seem to be connected to the "bottom" radiator tank - I think? However I'm well known for loosing bets!

Another thing which is just slightly puzzling me is that our radiators are mostly - maybe exclusively? - crossflow (water goes side to side) but this picture, if I've got my orientation right, seems to show the flow would be up/down? That's why I'm saying more pictures from further away could help. I don't recognize that circular component to the left of hose 2 either? but then again I'm not familiar with the diesel variants.

Pipes in you photo numbered 1 and 2 are connected to an intercooler.

Hi Jock,
I find the photo confusing too. I think it is a mirror image so left/right have been swapped.
Cheers Jack

Hi..

You obviously have a complex array of KIT under that bonnet ;)

Let me try and simplify what you are hoping to achieve :)

Pic from 176 section.. this isnt new tech..

Your car will have a waterpump..driven by the cambelt.. the centre of the waterpump then has a LONG ..and corroded.. metal tube that crosses the front of the engine block..

It ends near the gearbox and will have a large bore rubber hose attatched

THIS HOSE IS WHAT YOU NEED.. ;)

follow the hose to the radiator.. undo that retaining clip

Warm car to get the hose soft.. then turn engine off

Then.. wearing waterproof gloves.. remove the hose from the radiator

If you keep the hose up against the radiator stub.. you can control the fluid quite well ;)

Well I suppose if 1 and 2 are induction system it won't make a mess if he pulls the wrong pipe?
I agree plus it is likely number 1 has to come off to get to the hose clip on 3.

When refitting hoses with new hose clips do not over tighten the hose clips and break the plastic pipe!

Late at the table here and I personally think that the OP should seek professional help here, bottom line get somebody who knows what to do. I really don’t want to burst the OP bubble but obviously lacks simple mechanical skills. It’s only easy when you know the answer as I say. Jock mentioned, it’s the filling up and bleeding of the system, making things are right, if not done correctly may cause damage. Jut my thoughts...:)
