Morning folks. Having just paid through the nose to have my local garage read the error codes off my dashboard and then fail to reset them properly I want to get hold of an OBD reader and take a look myself. Have some experience of this on a bike but never a car, and all the posts on this I can find are old and/or have ebay links that are long since defunct. Thought there might be a Guide or sticky on this topic but can't see one? Anyhoo...looks like I need MultiECUScan (not sure if the free or licensed version?), but also some 'interface' which I assume is the cabling to connect between the OBD port and the computer with MultiECUScan on it? Any recommendations? I have an old laptop in the garage so doesn't need to be bluetoothed to my phone or anything flash (unless my laptop doesn't have the right ports - could be a problem - it's old).

Hi :)

If you only want basic engine gubbins dealt with then an £8 OBD reader is fine..

Airbag.. ABS or PAS though will need flash expensive kit.. or the 50 euro MES licence and a £30 bundle of cables

Where are you based.. plenty of us on here with the MES KIT.. mine is circa 2014 though.. so Im not added to the forums MES register

Thanks - if I'm reading the website right then the MES software is all the same but getting a license unlocks more of the goodies. So I could get the free one to start with and if I (ever) need more, just buy a license? Just need to find out what sort of cabling I need - seems to be a vast array of options.
