Good evening everyone,

Mk2b 1.3 MJD owner here;

I have noticed dripping from under the engine bay and when followed to its source I have identified it to be the rubber hose that connects the metal coolant piping to the plastic thermostat input(or output idk)(Please see attached images for what I am talking about). The hose is perished/cracked and is leaking coolant.

I have ordered this replacement hose: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/FIAT-PUNTO-188-1-3D-Radiator-Hose-03-to-12-188A9-000-Coolant-Gates-55209535-New/333602708205?fits=Car+Make%3AFiat%7CModel%3APunto%7CPlat_Gen%3A188_&epid=21030228614&hash=item4dac455aed:g:1vYAAOSw6iJew8uX#vi-ilComp

Could any of the guru's on this forum help me understand if I've purchased the correct replacement part? I can't locate the part number for my vehicle model, the website below shows a diagram and part number for the Grande Punto but none for the classic Punto's https://www.99rpm.com/fiat/hoses-thermostat-water-pump-1-3-mjd-punto.html.

Any tips/experience surrounding this issue(as well as re-filling the coolant once the hose is fixed) would also be much appreciated :)

Thanks in advance.

Refilling coolant

Plenty of punto 1 and 2 GUIDES

Basically find the bleed screws open them..and slowly refill :)

I will add a link to a post I made this week:

Undo the radiator hose clip

Remove radiator hose from lowest radiator pipe

Catch coolant in a bowl

Undo the bleed screws 2 complete turns

COFFEE BREAK*

look at the coolant in the bowl

has it separated.. ? 2 obvious levels ??

(That..along with the rust and dirt in the bottom of the bowl.. are contaminants)

If its all clean and good (no filtration required )

You can :

Refit lower hose

Tighten hose clip

Refill radiator (when less than 0.5 litres left in bowl.. check for dribbling from the bleed screws)

Slowly add remainder of fluid..
Watching for fluid appearing at bleed screws.. tighten closed when fluid appears

Add remainder of coolant to Radiator

Leave the cap OFF

CHECK FOR LEAKS..

If leak free.. start engine..

Let it idle until warm.. the level will rise in the radiator..

Bubbles will work their way free

When radiator fan runs.. the coolant level will drop

You can then turn off engine

Let cool

Add fluid to the MAX mark

That will have coolant circulating correctly

The system will still shift small pockets of air.. so keep an eye on the level for a few days of use

Here is a link to the part you need

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/FIAT-PUN...9-000-Coolant-Gates-55209535-New/333602708205

This part on this link is a genuine GATES branded item. It has the required 15 mm bore and 75 mm length. To fit WD40 both ends of where it fits on for lubrication. Bend the new hose in the middle and then slide onto the plastic thermostat tube first. Then force the front onto the metal pipe and slowly ease it on. Dont forget to slide two jubilee clips onto the metal pipe first before fitting it. Then just gently nip them up to prevent leaks.

I changed the coolant on my 1.3 classic punto and no bleeding was needed, actually I don’t remember their being any bleed screws and it has ap era different pipe work, radiator and coolant reservoir to other petrol models of punto so it is a bit different.
