Hi all

My 2000 16V 1.2 punto 188(manual) needs new front brake discs and I think I should renew the pads at the same time. The discs are 257mm dia and it seems easy enough to find the correct size discs to replace these, but pads seem less clear.

I can see different size pads offered by the stockists, all saying they will fit a 2000 188 punto, but sizes varying from 151.5x52mm (17.8mm thick) to 105x66.5mm (thickness 17.1mm). The notes indicate the different sizes are due to cars having teves or Bendix brakes, and of course I don’t know which my car has!

Can anyone advise on how to be sure of the size required, as I’d prefer not to have to disassemble and remove the pads to measure them before getting replacements lined up. Thanks all.

My 1.2 188 2004 16V has easily visible identification letters on the metal of the front brakes. You can then compare them to the parts on other cars

https://www.varaosahaku.fi/fi-en/Se...TO/2000_2018/Brakes/Brake-Caliper/Left-front/

Also using the registration of your car the parts shop should be confidant of your parts and allow you to return parts you do not use. If necessary buy both sets and return what you don't need.

The dimensions you want for the 16v are

width: 151 mm
height: 52 mm
thickness: 17.9 mm

The other ones you've found might be for the automatic transmission or the 8v. It doesn't matter though, it's the wrong one.

These dimensions are from Pagid and you can look them up in their catalogue yourself (Just Google Pagid catalogue and fill in your car details).

The discs you want are 258 mm, you're right.

Thanks Judderbar and quaffle for replying. The lettering on the brake callipers is illegible to my old eyes, so the answer quaffle has posted is ideal - thanks again both for helping out!!
