I was planning to replace the rear springs on my mk2b sporting, just had a look under the rear to check if the bottom bolts are seized up.

Pointless exercise it turns out as I was greeted with this...
Had a heavy load recently and was very lucky it didn't collapse on me
I need a new abs rear beam axle then, can someone tell me if the 5 door and the 3 door use the same axle?
Currently looking at ebay and can only find 5 door abs beams

Anyone got one for sale by any chance?

Anyone on eBay breaking a 3 door car you could contact?

These cars are very cheap now, in the few hundred pounds mark, it may be worth buying yourself a donor car then scrapping it after you’ve removed the bits you want.
 
I'm currently searching up ebay, found this:

looks like the best condition one on there, but it came off a 5dr.
I don't know if they are the same as the 3dr- they look the same at least just not sure

A donor car would be a good idea, but I don't have the equipment (4 post lift etc) to remove something as big as a rear beam, ideally I would just give a replacement to my local garage to swap over. (Also kinda want to avoid adding another car to the drive haha)

Looking on ePER there are 8 different axles, however, they are different by model, not on the number of doors, the Sporting axle is the same as the HGT according to ePER.

I've highlighted the two that are specific to the Sporting in this screenshot:

I'm guessing the Sporting / HGT axle allows for the fitment of discs, the axle you've shown there from Ebay is for a 1.2 and has drums.
One other thing, that is a Polish ePER, as the one linked to from here doesn't work. I'd like to think it doesn't matter if they're LHD or RHD.
 
Thanks for your help mate, I also had a look on the pekidi.com ePER and was surprised to see that the HGT shared the same setup as the sporting.
I'm pretty sure all sporting just had rear drums, possibly not in other markets I guess.

I took a gamble and ordered the ebay axle, my old one was drums with abs sensors so hopefully it fits- will update when done.

Another oddity is that when ordering rear springs for a sporting (off ebay again):

...I found out JTD HGT, Sportings and even the punto vans share the same rear coil springs - weird that the van doesn't need longer beefier ones.

Just to update this thread, the ebay beam fitted perfectly.
So all punto mk2b rear beams should be the same minus what brakes are fitted, drums or disks, non abs or fitted abs etc.

I now have smaller rear drums (the 1.2 8v setup) compared to the sporting drums I had before- I don't see how this would affect anything though as drums for the 5 door 1.2 should be fine on my 3 door, feels no worse either.

Your sporting was designed to have the bigger drums. It might not cause any problems at all or it might upset the brake balance with more breaking going to the front, means the car might be unstable in an emergency stop situation.
 
I understand where you are coming from and don't dispute it at all. At least it's better that fitting disks and having more braking power at the rear.

If anything, the brakes feel even better- probably due a brake fluid flush and having newer brake shoes.

Good news, I'm sure that is gonna help a fair few people as these cars get older and older. :slayer:
 
if you're happy with things at the moment, I would take the oportunity when the weather gets better, to refurbish the old drum set up with new drums cylinders and shoes then fit them when you get the chance. One of the main reasons being if you do need to do the brakes at some point at least the vin or reg number will bring up the right parts.
Also it means you can have nice new brakes without any rush to get it done.
