My driver door lock will not let me put my key in. I suspect it has not been used due to car previously having a remote. Is the best route to strip clean and lubricate the barrel or source a new remote? Any pointers re both would be appreciated ?

You may find taking the barrel out and giving it a good clean and lube will do the job.
The barrel comes out fairly easily, you need to take the door card off anf the lock / barrel is held in place with a "C" clip.
A new remote would need to be programmed, the key also holds an immobiliser chip in it.

You can get a replacement set of barrels from a breakers, take a look on Ebay.
You'll need the ignition barrel, doors, the boot and the airbag key (it's on the side of the dashboard by the passenger door, you'll need to open the door to see it.
And obviously a set of keys, the locks should come with them.
You'll need to swap out the immobiliser chip and the remote control pcb from your ket to the new ones.

Give the lock a good spray with gt85 or anything with silicon in it.
If it still fails to go in, it may have a collapsed wafer in there.
I can re-wafer locks to the existing key if you send it to me.
I can also repair remotes so usually no need to purchase a new one.

Don't have a remote and have key for doors tailgate and airbag. Separate fiat key for ignition. How much for re-wafer assuming I can drive the car while you fix it (central locking still works and I've been getting in by unlocking passenger door) I would think it would be safe with no barrel in for couple of days. Also is it expensive to go remote?

Hi mate. OK door card is off and I'm struggling a bit to get barrel out. Is there an easy way?

Sorted. Took barrel out and Stripped it and soaked it in cheap cola overnight followed by pulling wafers and quick rub on 1200 grit emery. Rebuilt it and lubed with Teflon spray grease before refit.
Might try for career as locksmith!!
Breakers wanted 30-40 quid just for barrel and key. Fixed mine and can still use old key for 39p tin of cola ?
