Hi,

I am having intermittent problems when connecting to my Punto engine ECU.
Sometimes it connects ok, other times the connection fails, And iit's a paint to get it back on.
It always connects to the Dashboard, Electric steering, and body ECU. But intermentently it fails to connect to the engine ECU.
Key is ON, engine is running. Or Key is ON and engine not running, happens in both cases.

Anyone has any ideas what could cause this? Or had been through this?

This problem persists. Any ideas what it could be?

I have an ELM from idiagnostics
And have the multiecu program.
It connects fine to every other ECU.

I connected without problems to Engine ECU with the 'Launch' diagnostic tool. It couldn't do much tho, only read faults and read a couple of data's.

Elm only..

No adaptors required ;)

Latency not ideal.. but shouldnt be that big an issue

So scanning for devices finds all but engine..?

Yes, if I do a SCAN it doesn't find the engine ECU, but finds the others.

I am still facing this issue.

Any ideas what I can check?

I think however the elm still needs to read the particular wire which is hard wired to the ECU the Multiecuscan software tries to connect to.

So if that is correct An intermittant connection suggests a faulty connection at the OBD port for that particular ECU in this case the engine ECU. Which i think might be pin 7

For what I saw there

Pin 7 is K-Line

Pin 6 is CAN HIGH and PIN 14 is CAN LOW
I think that's universal for all OBD ports, the CAN bus is always present on those pins.
My adapter does seem to work, and connect to the car CAN bus since I can connect to other ECU's

I think the engine should be present on the K-Line too, but I can't connect to it on that bus either.

I saw you posted a Pinout for the Bosch Motronic ECU, here on the forums. I wanna thank you for that, it's very useful.
I saw there the 2 PINS for the CAN network are on the Conector #2 . I can check those connections out, but I don't think it's gonna be a problem there, since the engine ECU has to deliver information to other ECU's and it seems to do so.
