Hi

I have just drove 100 miles and after parking up and emptying car noticed a load of fluid leaking from the engine, on closer inspection it looks to be leaking from a pipe and hopefully just a loose jubilee clip.

What pipe is it and what fluid is it carrying?

Photo shows where the leak is (circled) and I've highlighted the pipe with a red line

Thanks in advance

Neil

RAC can't repair and said it need to go garage to have metal pipe replaced, I'm on holiday 100 miles from home and don't really want to take it to a unknown garage.

Would some epoxy putty do the trick as a temp fix until I get home? Has anyone got any ideas or recommend a garage in York area that can fit me in tomorrow?

Thanks

Hi.

Line is a coolant hose..

Circle is a cable: electrical.. lambda probe ;)

I suspect..
Your issue is actually the steel tube the hose is joined to

It plugs into the waterpump.

Behind the plastic engine timing cover.

Yes you're right it is the steel pipe! He's put some sort of gasket sealant on and told me to top up tomorrow with water and take to nearest garage, I'm in York on holiday for 4 days and need the car to get around! Any quick temp fixes?

Thanks

Neil

You can buy a few products to add to the coolant which can work on a smaller leak.

If the leak is actually where your circle is then it could be fixed by cutting the damaged end off the pipe and adding extra tubing with a join in the tube. Adding gasket sealant to the outside of the pipe seems doomed to not work.

If the metal pipe is actually good then the fix is simple and you can do this yourself with a knife and the tube and connector from a motor shop. You appear to have the original clip there which can be broken off using a screwdriver jammed into the retainer.

Otherwise if you carry masses of water you have no major problems providing you keep filling it up! :D

thanks. The hole is in the metal pipe and not the rubber one. The sealant has worked and it's no longer leaking, hopefully it'll last till I get home. We're here till Thursday and I've rang 3 garages this morning and none can fit me in until Wednesday.
