Hi,
My punto seems to be running on 3 cyclinders.
I have changed plugs, coil packs leads.
How do i test each fuel injector to make sure the cyclinders are getting fuel??
could the ECU be my problem.the car is 8 valve 19 years old.

With the handle of a long handled screwdriver against your ear you can easily hear each individual injector clicking if you touch the blade on the injector. Each injector should have a resistance of 14 ohms.

On the 16v car with the injectors out of the intake and still connected to the fuel you can use the longest injector wire to test each injector produces fuel. With difficulty with the 16v you can operate all of the injectors inside a baking dish to compare the flows.

As it happens I am getting an ebay set of injectors with the fuel rail and wiring to make this job easier so I have a longer wiring harness to compare the flow rates and catch all of the fuel without straining the wires.

All 4 Injectors are clicking and they are all getting voltage.
I removed all 4 plugs are they are each covered in black soot.
What does this mean????

Over fueling ?...its dry and sooty so its not burning it off ?..Air filter clean ?..try putting a fuel system cleaner through it..like Redex or similar

How would it burn it off? I thought the injectors didn't eject directly in to the combustion chamber.

Its my understanding that the injectors spray,or dribble when they are broke, fuel in a chamber(each cylinder) which is then ignited by the spark plug..
As the entire system is managed by the ecu if any of the corresponding sensors are off /out then the system tries to auto correct how much fuel is being injected.
Things like a dirty air filter, old spark plugs, leads, throttle valve plate being gummed up and not closing, lambda sensors etc can have a knock on effect.

I personally would remove the air filter housing and clean the throttle plate,or butterfly valve with carb cleaner and a toothbrush.AND then try some Redex or similar in the petrol.

BUT thats me init..:D
