Hi Guys
I have a 2002 Punto mk2 1.2 8v The rear brake shoes do not have automatic adjusters just a flat bar connecting the top of the shoes with no visible means of adjustment. The pedal movement is too low,how do i adjust them?

You should see a slot, where you put a screw driver and push the linkage and ratchet teeth. Slacken Hand brake first. To slacken, refit rear drums, remove rear centre ash try, remove small Allen bolt, remove small try, slacken 10mm nut.

IMG_0653.JPGno2 put screw driver in here and move side to side to tighten. Push down on No1 to slacken and restart.

Thanks
I will go and look for it.Is it possible to fit auto adjusters instead of the bar to this set up?

I have stripped down both rear brakes which already had new shoes and fitted new handbrake cables. On assemble i have adjusted the shoes as suggested and done some heavy reverse braking. The result is i have an acceptable foot brake and a good handbrake on the near side but no handbrake on the offside.
The reason i changed the cables was because the cable operating the offside wheel was pulling 2cm further than the nearside so i thought it was stretched.
However the new cables are operating the same as the old ones.I have operated the shoes with the drum off and the cable is pulling the lever but the trailing shoe only moves slightly.Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Maybe one of the handbrake cable holding bracket is broken and the cable is loose, that's why it doesn't hold?
You should have seen that, on the other hand, when you changed the cables.

Look at post 9 picture. Is the raised blob (3) touching the shoe, with hand brake off. Does it move away from the shoe when handbrake pulled. That is how it should work. When you fit the drums, are they loose to go on,if so adjust the shoes. There should be small gap,not tight, when refitting drums.
