Hi, got the car back from the main Fiat dealer and now I can smell fumes. They come from the air vents. For now, I'm driving it with airflow on recirculate and windows open a bit.

Checked for plastic bags etc under car - nothing. Can't see anything obvious under the bonnet. Can't see any oil spilled on the ex manifold. When I open the bonnet, there does not seem to be more than the normal engine smell of warm oil.

The fumes are kind of sickly, make you feel nauseous after 15 minutes or so. More like exhaust fumes than something burning.

The smell starts 100 yards down the road from cold first thing in the morning.

Any ideas ? Yep, I know it's dodgy driving the car like it, CO poisoning and all. Dealer will look at it on Monday. They are 40 minutes drive away.

Twas in the Fiat dealer to fix an intermitent ECU light fault after they changed the timing belt. They ran diagnostics, checked valve timing & did a phonic wheel alignment.

Ta. Just had another peek under the bonnet. Nothing obvious in the way of loose tubes. I couldn't see everyrthingl under the air filter. Where is the crankase breather pipe ? It's an 02 8 valve 1.2 pterol.

Just letting you know how this one worked out.

Twas the breather pipe as you thought. It was split in a hard-to-see place. Dealer fitted new one FOC and gave a loan car for a couple of days while they waited for new breather pipe.
