Hi all,

I'am getting on a Punto MK2 / 16V a misfire on Cil3 and a P0303 error code read from ODBD. The engine error led on the dashboard "flashes" when the car has to "pull" e.g. when accelerating when not accelerating the engine error led goes off.
I've swapped the spark plug, swapped the ht lead but still get the misfire.
Even with the sparkplug out the cilinder against the car I do not get spark on #3 . Other cilinders spark I tried to get #4 off the coil and got electric shocks from the car (may be not that healthy at all!!!)
The wierd thing is that it is only #3 that does not spark else I did think it would be the coil. It is the coil with 4 HT leads on it not to confuse with the double coil on the 8V Punto. I've found here on the forum how tho check the coil and found in the Hainess manual the HT leads should be between 6.83 and 7.83 ohm and the primary winding should be 0.52-0.62 ohm.

Any ideas welcome...

Found this on

P0303 is a cylinder specific misfire code, which means that Cylinder 3 is misfiring and causing the code. An important thing to understand when finding the location of cylinder 3 is that it’s going to be the 3’rd cylinder in the firing order of the vehicle, and not the 3’rd cylinder that you might see when looking at the engine.

If this is right then I've been looking at the wrong cilinder cause ignition order of the punto is 1-3-4-2 and I've checked third cilinder from timing belt side of engine, should have changed spark plug and ignition cable on fourth from timing belt according this.

Cause of missfire in this one was a bad coil, put other coil from scrapyard which looked as new, on it now runs on 4 cil, and does not drive bad any more though still engine led lit on the dash so still something not right or something needs to be cleared.

And with fiat punto P0303 means misfire on Cil3 not 3rd cilinder in firing order thats nonsense. Cil 3 had no spark I did test that.

I had a misfire on my Idea 1.4 16valve which uses the same engine. Tried a new lambda sensor and it turned out one coil was slightly cracked. Got replacements from the scrapyard and it cured it immediately.
