Not gonna lie.... this box has had some serious work put on it....

Its done 2 rescues of a fiat ciuq over 10miles - once it was stuck in mud....

Ive rescue a damsel who broke down at lights - pulled her up the hill and to safety

Its pulled a loaded bipper van uphill in heavy snow (yes the punto car and did win! All thanks to winter tyres tho)

Its done alot of heavy van style work shifting tonnes of soil
Some in humpers in back of the car
Some in in a 750kg trailer loaded tl eye balls....

Its helped 2 people move house

Lwt alone pulling my teardrop over many miles loaded up - car loaded and a roof rack
Oh and its my mobile workshop when i go to customers cars.....

The poor thing never really stood a chance.....

Most diff oils should include an extreme pressure addative..... if not... its cheap for a reason....

Not touched him.for a few days...
Need time off work to get a box...

You done the box as well again ? or just the diff ? Makes a change I thought it was just Clutches you ate :p
Just the diff by looks of it....

Went scrappies today - got another box
Opened up the diff and it looks healthy toothed
Its a bolted type as well
Slotted it into mine and slapped on the donors cover (as my speedo got damaged)

Only to find out.... they have different tooth counts and it causes the box to lockup....

Annoying after several hours of figuring it out ive rebuilt scrappy diff onto scrappy box and we are now praying to the gods.... it holds out....

Ive never had soooo much trouble gettin a punto box in.... todays really pushed my patience as the splines refused to align....

So 23.30 im now in bed with a car still in pieces.... in a garage id of been fired by now....

Not good, you'd think with the 1.2 they'd all have standard box and diff instead of having different tooth counts, fell into that one with Starter Motor (Luckily sent it back on got a refund). Got lucky when i replaced my Gearbox, although i got my mates garage to fit it and they had to use my original diif (for speedo) everything was the same and all slotted together no issue

Thought all mk2/2b 5 speeds were the same. I know the grande Punto looks the same(but has a extra small bolt up and down in the end gear box mounting.)and has a different crown wheel and pinion teeth count.

You would think so....
Tbh my box could be a grande box for all i know

Its not the original... was meant to be a recon box....

Well i got down to stripping diff when i gey an hr or 2....

Had to cut bearings off as they wouldnt pull off....
New ones here

New speed drive also here

The reason why punto diff fail?
Shimming by the looks of mine...
So youve got the cage and gears

Fiat use a plastic jacket inside
But.... we all know... plastic vs metal means it weara out...

Yup
Mine is thin crispy and fragile...
The diff gears have slowly been moving apart and rattling against each other
And after a while the gears can skip once
Once they skip
Ita game over (my story)

Im working slowly on it... but with 100things going on... progress is super slow
The £50 box is holding but for how long?

Is that the only difference?

The crown wheel and pinion, and the actual gears all have different teeth counts, but the housings are identical bar the extra threaded hole,so you can swap internal components into different casings. So swapping gear boxes complete,ie fit a mk2b into a grande works and drops the revs by 500rpm.(but not Grande Punto to a mk2b,as the revs will rise by 500 rpm and scream over revs at you.The grande already sounds like it's geared wrong.) Also as long as the crown wheel has the same teeth count,as the donner box,you can change a five speed to a five speed or six speed with out removing the diff or drive shafts,by leaveing the bell housing on the engine and just removing bolts from around bell housing/gearbox casing, and a few other bits, but it is fiddley to get the two 13mm bolts back into the reverse idler, but it is posible,if you are patient and calm.

Brothers have a 1.2 8v 5speed grande
And a 1.4 16v 6speed evo

If either of them had a box issue
Could slap the my rebuilt back in theres when i scrap mine....
