Hi everyone, I’ve got a problem with a flashing gearbox light and an ABS light on, fault code P1705, transmission not connecting to ABS, I’ve checked and cleaned all the earth points including rear light, I did manage to clear the dtc and both light went out but came back on when I pulled away, but drives okay, I’m not worried about gearbox light I just want the ABS out because it needs an MOT, there’s no DTC,s on the ABS, any suggestions, I’ve also cleaned all the electrical plugs to the box and the ABS unit.

Can you clarify what you mean by:

>>ABS light on, fault code P1705, transmission not connecting to ABS,................... there’s no DTC,s on the ABS

Perhaps a typo for fault codes not present for gearbox?

>>fault code P1705, transmission not connecting to ABS

That is an odd sounding code description. What we do know is the code only gets generated when the car begins moving.

All very mysterious so far!

Thanks for the reply Judderbar, I’m using a multi scan when I click on the ABS it says no DTC, I click on the auto transmission and read codes it says “No connection to ABS, I clear the fault and the gearbox light goes out, a few seconds then starts flashing. How can I tell which ABS which sensor is at fault, does the multiscan do it? I thought I’d read every thread concerning the ABS, I didn’t see the one you attached, thanks, I’ll have a check on abs sensors over the weekend

Sorry I am not in a position to help you but there is a man who might be able to. dave

Thanks JB, that thread attachment is exactly my problem, pity there wasn’t a resolved post, ive cleaned all the earth points, four of them including the ECU one and battery, rear light. I’ve had the car for years, it’s a 2002 model it was a year old when purchased, it’s never been in an accident. I checked the rear ABS bearing earlier, left side looked as if it had teeth but gone a bit smooth, the other side looked just looked shiny metal and smooth , they’re original to the car, I’ll keep plugging away, thanks again.

The answer might be the code description you have is not correct.

P1705 could be a code for the signal from a position sensor being out of range.

Another interesting comment. From Dave in his speedgear teardown thread.

"I think the speedo in the speedgear operates from sensor in the gearbox as when i connected mine wrong the speedo didnt work, manual puntos with abs take speed signal from abs sensor iirc."

Is your fault saying the gear box speed sensor has no relationship to the ABS sensor speed? That is, they are mismatched?

I give up!! I’ve taken it to a garage with all diagnostic gear, I was going to throw a lot of parts at it, ABS sensors and wheel bearings until it the light went off. The range sensors okay.... I think, well the dash is showing the correct gear selection, reminds me of that thread a little while ago, am I mad to keep fixing, which I think your signed into Judderbar, ha ha. Thanks for your help again, I’ll post again the results of what they find. Thanks.

SOLVED!! I know it’s been some time, but I got it through the mot with the abs light on, the flashing gearbox light wasn’t a problem, but I replaced both rear hub bearings today and the the ABS magnetic ring had broken away on one of the hubs, after fitting the new ones, drove 50m up the road and both the ABS and the flashing gearbox lights went out, happy days.
