Hi, so I have a mk2a sporting for spares in my garage, but the engine (16v) is mint condition. I was thinking if I could swap that engine to my 8v mk2a. What would I need to borrow from the other car? Thanks,

Lots.....
All electronics as 16v is flybywire throttle
8v is cable

Brakes and suspension are different and needed to stop

Obvs the engine and mounts.... might as well keep the 16v box too

Its alot of work tbh.... and let alone insurance comolications / increase....

Leave the 8v alone imho

Get the engine to Denmark and sell it for a €1000 euro. Prices for good engines are also high here in Finland.

Likewise the gearbox in good condition will get you 400 Euro.

Potentially anyway.

Clearly not using all 60bhp....
Ive had mine loaded up to the eye balls to the point ive had to use suspension assisters to help keep the arse up (+ trailer/caravan on back)

Ive driven through many hilled areas (derbyshire and devon/cornwall)

The 8v is a solid lump
Itll do what you ask

It can do it!
Its no ferrari or lambo but it does the job as designed

Well then my 8v must have some problem in the engine, I live in an area full of long "climbs" to get where I need to. And the car does not have much force

Oh dont get wrong, they dont like it.... the stress mines under is destroying gearboxes....

And it requires speed adaption before hills....
I do end up droppin a few gears to keep moving

Yeah, I usually drivw uphills in second gear or else rhe car dies

Diesels its about torquein it out - letting turbos do the work, so finding thr sweet spot on its powerband and keeping it there

Petrols its different
Towing wise - there high rpm gunners
They like to be kept higher up the rev range where the cross over on bhp vs torque
If you can keep them there - they'll do it

I found i had to bend limits as i went downhill to attack the next hill to ensure i stayed as close as i can

Some hills do suddenly kill like
