I had new ones late last year, and these ones have died (only had damper replaced, not spring etc) due to the relentless speedbumps this funking city possesses.

If a garage was to do it, they could replace just the damper again, as they have a spring compression thing. I don;t and would prefer to do the work myself, so would have to buy unit as a whole, and bolt here up.

How much would it cost as damper only, and as complete shock??

Another question, I really need to rebuild whole engine (will do when I get clutch done), going to do it myself, as have done plenty of ford X/flows etc, but I can't get the full gasket kit from anywhere, only parts, also need sump/bottom end gasket, and possibly piston rings?? Whats the damage to the old wallet?

Buy the spring compressors... Places wont have the whole system available as it needs the top bearing from your car and would be under load - potentially dangerous. (have you seen someone unbolt the shock with the spring un-compressed?! haha)

You can get them from machine mart for very little and will last a lifetime. Just be careful not to get anything trapped in the springs.

P.S. I would have given you prices and a link but MachineMart webby seems to be down :(

You tried TMS? i work at a garage and thats all we use unless a better quality or cheaper unimportant part is needed, after checking with our customers. I got a spurious damper there for about £27 i think, and they are under warranty for a year or tw i believe. Have you tried ebay for a gasket set or even TMS also?
