Not so.

1. A factory new (virgin) ECU will automatically boot up and transfer the code from the body computer.

2. A used ECU can be made to appear as a new one by changing the hex code in the ECU - virginising. That ECU will then work for any car needing that type of ECU.

3. You can copy the hex code from a defective unit in the car to a used one that is good for that car only - cloning.

Ok so I bought a virgin*ecu*from eBay, same problem with immobilizer not letting car start, eBay seller sent me another and that one does exactly the same thing. Either got a seller who is happy to keep sending out ones that aren't coded properly or am I doing something wrong, I am following the instructions, disconnecting battery etc

hi GRAHAM L
are you sure you have connected the earth cable up to the ecu,it wont work if you dont

Thanks, I didn't see any earth cable just the 2 bolts holding ecu in place and the 2 plugs. Where's the earth cable?

i have a same problem, bought a clean ecu, but when i putted inside the my car, don't start due immobiliser fail. Seller wrote me a procedure with first disconnect battery for 5minut, then plug ecu, start ignition for 60s, don't start, ignition off for 30s and then ingniton on and immo light will be switch off and allowed start engine. Car is far away from me now, is the procedure real? I don't need this in other fiat models (marea, brava, multipla, stilo),it was always enough to connect the ecu without disconnecting the battery and immediately worked for the first time. Fiat Punto mk2b FL 2007. I don't want to go a long way just to the test because I have doubts that the unit is not well deleted. Thx

I have not read about that procedure in the 9 years i have been on this forum.

A virginised ECU should be plug and play.

But what was the original fault with the original ECU you are now wanting to replace?

I am also concerned that it will be a wasted trip to the car and the drive is not actually deleted as the seller declared.

Unit does not work because of ignition coil fail P0352, everything else has been replaced, but the engine still runs on two cylinders, ecu test shows a fault on the output to the coil

Idea:
As you are attempting to drive the car a distance back to you....

The Fiat system is Wasted Spark... every plug fires..irrespective of use

Could you trigger all 4 x coils from your remaining coil signals (maybe the 500style 4gang coil could enable that..??)

If it ran for an hour or 2..that would be enough

this is not realistic, it always fires 2 spark plugs, with 4 at once it would not work. The Fiat 500 only has coils in one pack, not one coil for all 4 cylinders

I think the ECU must count the small notches on the crankwheel to get the firing position for the two pistons which are 180 degrees from number one and number 4 position. only two plugs fire each time
