I have a P reg (1997) 1.6 8v Punto Sporting which I bought about 6 months ago. I noticed but didn't worry that much about the hand break warning light didn't work.

I have now tried to see where the problem lies. I've pulled the dash unit out, taken the three bulbs out and tested them and they all seem to be okay. The fuse controlls all the dashboard lights - the others are working so it's not that. I can't see any damage on the circuit board on the back of the dash unit.

Has anyone else had this fault or does any one have any ideas what else I can try. I'd like to fix it if I can because the break fluid light and break pad wear lights are all affected.

Thanks,

PS New to this and Puntos. Loving my Sporting so far though!

I'll try that later but when you press the orange button on the break fluid bottle the light doesn't come on as it should either.

Thanks!

i had the same problem on my p reg punto turned out the wire under the hand brake leaver had broke just cut the wire and taped it bk on with electrical tape i think its an m.o.t failer not to have a brake warning light.

Well i have the opposite problem, when ever i break hard or on a slope my handbrake light comes on. I had brakes tested, there fine. So i just live with mine!! :)

I had a look and the wire under the hand break had come off so I've fitted it back on now. But it still doesn't work! Rang a Fiat dealer mechaninc but he didn't seem very willing to give advice - unless I booked it in and paid :-(

PS had a look at http://www.motester.co.uk/cog.html - it gives a list of all the things that are tested in the MOT. The only dashboard break related warning light tested (unless I missed some other on the list) is the ABS failure light. I don;t know if this works - does anyone know how they test this?

Thanks again!

thats good then at least it sounds like it isnt a m.o.t failier if your car has the abs symbel when you turn the egnition on then it will have abs but if you dont c the symbel then no it shouldnt mine ant got abs i think 55 and 60s dont im not sure on that but i should think your car will have with it being a sporting have you got a fiat hand book to check this? as for the light its self, there may be a break further down the wire check all the wire for a break im sure if it could be a fuse becasue i think all the dash lights would not work.
