Banging noise - trying to locate. Tie rods ends just changed, inners replaced last year. Struts replaced last year and tier bar yoke - roll bar bushings ok. Cannot see anything loose but annoying banging still there. That strut grinds on turning so wondering if top mount ( what way is arrow supposed to face??)]
Doesnt sound like CV joint so not worried about that. Any ideas ???

Hi Ziggy, forgot to say that wishbones changed last year as well. Looks like the easiest way is get the strut out and start with that. Very annoying. Does increase with passenger in car and last piece of tailpipe fell off. (exhaust being done today) Wondering if might be exhaust banging around

Arrow on rubber top mount faces rearwards

Tab on top metal coup above the spring faces outwards

The spring will physically go in both ways but should only be fitted one way so it conforms to the shapes in the strut and cup. So it can be upside down and cause banging.

The exhaust manifold should have a clip fitted to the gearbox. Cheap Fiat part or make your own so the manifold does not sag and move around

Grinding noise when turning the steering would suggest to me that the Spring is fitted incorrectly.
If it isnt fitted correctly then it hits the inner wing when you turn the steering hence the grating noise.
The banging would make me check to see if the spring has broken although incorrect fitting would also cause it to bang due to hitting the inner wing.
It's also worth checking the shocks as they also cause banging noises when theyre shot.
Exhaust is also a common source of banging noise from passenger side of the car (it bangs against the rear suspension as it is quite close) usually caused by the Rear exhaust rubber being knackered.
